Pretty neat tour.



From the video:

A tour of a ship's engine room.

300,000 tonne tanker.

Main Engine: B&W two stroke, large bore, long stroke turbocharged diesel engine.

Bore 800mm, 32,000 shp at 105 rpm.

Fuel consumption approx 110 tonne heavy fuel oil per day at full speed.

Main generators: 3 x 0.75 Megawatt.

Some of the sea-going adventure stories written by Wilbur Smith detail the hazards of only having one engine on a supertanker.  He makes a very good argument for two or three or even four engines for safety's sake.  A lot of tankers have busted up on the rocks when they lost the main engine somehow.
