I owned a pair of Oakley Half jackets and lost them swimming at the beach. They were the best sunglasses Id ever owned.
Now that Im in the market for a new pair are there any other brands out there that wont cost me 200 bucks that are as well built and cool looking? whats say you hive?

Over priced crap.
I dropped my ballistic M frames on GRASS and broke off one of the arms. |
|
I like Oakleys the best. Only problem is if you like a certain model they might not make it anymore so you'll have to replace the lenses with aftermarket ones.

Flak jacket xlj polarized blk iridium. Eta amazon.

I like my ballistic m frame 2.0.
They work well and fit well but also have z87 markings, making them offshore legal for use as safety glasses. Nice touch there. The lenses are easy to change and are pretty tough. |

Can you get on Standard Issue, Oakley's military and LE website? Pretty cheap there.

Rayban Wayfarers are best sunglasses. http://thelodge3life.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/miami-vice20.jpg View Quote I've been wearing them in one form or another for 30 years. Classic look. Oakleys (or, at least the ones I usually see), always give me the impression that the design team wanted them to look like the sunglasses that a comic book superhero would wear. They're just too flashy for me. (Of course, this is why Baskin-Robbins makes 31 flavors.) |

I have a set of Oakleys that I bought through the LE/Mil purchase site. They're not the blades , half jacket or any of that kind of crap. Just "normal" looking glasses but I will say they are bomb proof. I'm very tough on glasses and I've had these for about 6 years now. I've climbed with them, swam in salt water, etc...etc..and they still look new.
If you look closely I suppose you'll see that the frame and temples have sustained multiple impacts but the glass and hinges are perfect. When these go my next set will be Oakley. |

oakleys seem poorly made to me. i have a pair or wiley sabers i love.

The best shades I have is Costa Del Mar's with the blue 580 lens. I also have 2 Radar Oaks but the CDM's are hands down better.

|
Love the Oakley's I have. I have heard good things about Costa's, but never tried them.

They were probably subjected to something far harsher and finally reached a failure point breaking and fallin off your head. Be honest. Oakleys are not invincible but my M frames saved my eyes from a flash bang going off about a foot from my face and countless other bad shit that multiple deployments downrange throws at you. OP yes they are great sunglasses. I like the flack jackets and gas cans best and in uniform it's my M frames all the way. |

Liquid Eyewear make some badass sunglasses check them out if Oakleys are not what you are looking for.

I actually just got a set of their regular eye glasses. I really like them.

View Quote Wileys always fog on me; they hold too close to the face with insufficient venting. |

All the oakleys ive liked are discontinued, All you need to do is go to the eye doctor and they will get you some good stuff prescription or not.

Oakleys are a pair of 2 buck chinese sunglasses that you pay 2 bills for.

Oakleys were the most durable eyepro I wore when I was in Iraq. I like them a lot.
|
|
I have been wearing oakleys for at least 15 years. I have broke two pair from taking a ground ball in the face playing 3rd base. They saved my eyes and I trust my life to them.
Yes, they do break and are expensive. But they are designed to give you maximum protection up to the limits of the material they use. |
|
I would vote for Oakley. I currently have 3 different pairs of Oakley glasses but the main ones I wear are Oakley XLJ Polarized Half Jacket.
The main reason these our my go to glasses is because of the weight, fit and the lenses. |
|
I've had mixed results with them since the 90s. Some have been rock solid, some have been okay.
|
|
They used to be bulletproof, back when they were making a name for themselves.
Today, they are just cheap crap that will break in a year. I used to wear nothing but oakley, then I had a rash of breaks in a year......now I wear a pair of Smith's that have been to hell and back and have survived more abuse than the 2 pair of oakley's that I toasted in the same time period. (I'm outside a lot, and I have them on my face or head for about 8 hrs a day.) |

I buy Oakleys off discount websites like Steepandcheap.com all the time. Usually over 50% off

Serengeti makes pretty good glasses I have had a pair for almost 10 years I wear while driving most every day and are still in excellent condition. |

I always wore Vuarnet until I had to go with prescription glasses at age 48.

Only time I broke a pair of oakleys is when something smacked me in the face. More than once my eyes have been saved by having them on. Been wearing them for about 15 years now.

I just got a pair of polarized ray ban and really like em so far

I just picked up the Oakley Gascans with polarized black iridium lenses for $160 shipped, really liking them. I had zappos gift cards I needed to spend.
|

For years I only wore Oakley and only purchased from US Standard Issue. If you qaulify it is a huge discount.
I wear Costa Del Mar now and like them for an overall general use item. Safety glasses at work are Oakley or ESS. Never pay retail for anything. |
