I now own a Miata.



I bought this thing to replace my VTX that I bought for my wife to ride on with me (she wont do the backseat of my sport bike) and she still wasnt that comfortable on the VTX. Sold the road couch and picked up this little NB Miata.

It needed a little TLC (throwout bearing, dented trunk, pinhole radiator leak, and a new top, specifically) so I got a pretty good deal.

I brought it back, and joined m.net, where I had my eyes opened to all the little stuff I needed to do to get it up to par.

I stuck it on jack stands, and dove right in!

This really is a neat little car, and simple to work on. I'm pretty sure I could dis-assemble the whole thing with a 10,12,14, and 17 socket, lol.

I performed the following in the next couple of months..

Removed stock wheels and dry rotted tires
Drained coolant, oil, trans, and diff
Replaced radiator
Replaced timing belt
Replaced clutch and both bearings
Replaced slave cylinder with OEM
Installed FM Stainless clutch line, and clutch switch override clip
Rebuilt shifter
Filled trans with Redline MTL and Diff with Redline 75w90
Fixed broken window switch
Had rust soda blasted off brake rotors, and painted center portion to prevent rust
Spruced up my calipers and valve cover with some red caliper paint
New plugs / wires
Installed FM VMaxx Coilovers
Installed Advanti Storm S2 15x7 Wheels with Dunlop Direzza Star Specs (195/55/15)
Four wheel alignment to FM Specs
Installed new Alpine head unit and Kicker door speakers
Installed new battery
Painted and installed replacement trunk lid (Dupli color rattle can, until I can paint the car in Sept)
Replaced broken taillight
Had headlights restored and UV coated

Took her out for the first time today, taking the wife to anniversary dinner. It drives like a new car! Had a blast, and we are taking it to the mountains in Tenn next week.

ETA, or mouth, good for you OP, I think I want a NA instead of a NB, but both cars should be a blast, the only problem is the possibility of a LS swap and the cost thereof.

Funny, I don't hear about any gay comments about British sports cars, and that's what the Miata is based on.

Then again, everyone knows what a PITA it is to keep one running.

Miatas are only a girl car because they are convertibles, so strip off the soft top and and go topless all the time!

But it's hard to make fun of a miata after you have really driven one and thrown it into impossible corners and smiled like an idiot when the car pulled it off almost effortlessly.

Anyone who shits on a Miata has never experienced the awesomeness of how much fun a lightweight rwd car can be.

I don't understand why people are so negative about Miatas.

I like them, but then I like the traditional sports car, which they remind me of.  I was also a fan of the 60's Shelby Cobra's which were nothing more than a british sports car, with American horsepower added.

...and they handled like shit, and didn't have an all weather top.  

The Miatas can be enjoyed in their factory configurations, or if someone wants an insane version they could do a Monster Miata Ford, or one of the Chevy LS conversions.  Which is very much like what Carroll Shelby did to those british sports cars back in the 60's.

I think they're pretty cool.

Personally I don't give a rat's ass what kind of car other people drive, but anyone who drives a convertible with the top down and the side windows up drops in my estimation to the same level as child molesters and people who talk in the theater.  

I am (in a few months), but I'll buy another one when I get to Texas.
