I figured I might as well share, since I'm sitting here groovin' anyway. You guys that lived through the 60's and 70's will probably appreciate this more than the younger crowd. It's all over the map though, so be warned.

Lotsa hits, lots of stuff they used to play but don't any more, and lotsa stuff you ain't never heard.

You old fossils don't have some monopoly on enjoying and appreciating good music from the prior generations, you know.

Well, stick around. You're going to hear some really good stuff they don't play on Classic Rock radio stations. Come to think of it, you're going to hear some stuff they *never* played on the radio, every now and then.

Is the audio quality okay? It's a WM9 codec, at a 64Kbit bitrate. I have to balance the quality with the limited upload bandwidth I have available on my EVDO connection here at home, but hopefully it sounds better than most internet radio stations.

Thanks Sub!
(This fossil likes your station.)

Audio quality is fine.

I listen to RM almost all day at work, and I think it is only 32 bit.

sounds good to me...a 50 yr old fossil...raised on rock...it wasn't called classic back in the day....

Sounds better than most net stations. Hell, sounds as good as a lot of the on-air stations around here.

Much better selection than either, thus far.

Well I dig it, but I figured this was a rock & roll crowd, mostly. There's some AC/DC playing right now anyway.

That was the Lonesome River Band. I kinda violated my "old stuff" rule, as that album is somewhat recent. You ever seen Oh Brother Where Art Thou? Remember the song "Man of Constant Sorrow" from that movie? That was performed by the Lonesome River Band.

As a matter of fact, I was just going to say that everytime I hear bluegrass, O brother where art thou comes to mind

Now quit violating the 'common music' rule, and play some AC/DC that's not on the radio all the time.

Heh.

Well, I've pretty much got like 90% of my collection queued up. It plays at random. Every now and then, a song that's been played into the ground will pop up.
Link Posted: 8/11/2007 4:22:49 AM EDT
Can you have it list the names of the songs?

I've been trying to figure out how to pull that off, but with the way I have them playing, I can't pass the info to my Win2k3 media server.

Can't pre-randomize and turn it into a playlist?

Come on. You stream audio driving down the road. We expect better.

I love that song. Are these MP3's or internet radio? Got any Kenny Wayne Sheppard? I'm 28 too. Love all music except Rap.

It's a pre-randomized playlist, but I can't pass the info to the encoder/streamer running on my laptop. Thus, it can't pass anything to the server (that you're connected to).

No Kenny Wayne Sheppard (never thought to download any, for some reason). These are mp3's. They're being played on my laptop (you're hearing whatever comes out my soundcard), encoded at 64Kbps by the Windows Media Encoder, and streamed to a Win2k3 server running Windows Media Services, which is what you're connected to.

It's the same setup I use when I broadcast myself driving, or whatever. I just have the webcam turned off and the audio quality bumped up.

How come I keep losing "reception" and the player goes into buffering?

Cause your connection sucks.

It could be one of two things:

1. My internet connection here at home is slowing down every now and then (likely, as it's wirelessly using the cell network)

2. Your internet connection is slowing down periodically. You need 64Kbps of available bandwidth. If it drops below that for any reason (even for a few seconds) it'll buffer.

If it's only happening to you, then it's just you. If it's happening to everybody, it's me.

EDIT: It was me, apparently. My encoder lost it's connection to the server for a few seconds, just now.

I normally don't click on shit like this, but this is good stuff. I was listening to bascially the same stuff on iTUnes, which I shut off to hear this. Good audio quality on this end and it is my kind of music.
