Sooo... Here I am on my way back to Texas, when my truck decides to die in the middle of nowhere on I-40.

Anyone have a good shop in Memphis that is open on Sunday that they can recommen?

Pretty sure it's the fuel pump, or the lines... No luck on a quick fix yet.

TR85.

UPDATE: Now the drivetrain is having issues and I'm stuck an hour west of Texarkana... may be the transfer case. Investigating.

UPDATE 2: Now I'm in Waco. Can't get it towed any further, can't pay for repairs. Investigating my options. An awesome ARFCommer offered the use of his trailer to haul the truck home, but he may or may not be able to drive it out here. Anyone with a truck capable of towing willing to take me from Waco to San Antonio will be compensated.

UPDATE 3 beta: Home... Sleep.

I don't know the area, but what kind of truck?  Chevy? Peterbuilt?

I'm sure someone here knows...

Best of luck!

Are you east or west of Memphis?  If you're close to Jackson there are a bunch of dealerships there, but they won't be open till tomorrow morning.  If you're out west I'm afraid I can't help ya.

Exactly halfway between Jackson and Memphis. Trying to go west. Which way do you suggest I have it towed?

If its the fuel pump u can do it on the side of the road in an hour. Same truck did mine in the driveway in 45 mins. If I wasn't 5 hrs away I'd come help u.

All that assuming ur tank is at 1/4 or less.

Wish I could be of more assistance.

The terrain here isn't good for autowork. Muddy, wet, dark and without enough operating room to be safe. I'd rather have it towed, even if I end up fixing it myself in the perspective shops parking lot at midnight.

Thanks for the concern and suggestion, though.

Let's assume it isn't the pump, filter or lines... What would be next to check folks?

And does anyone know a repair shop open on sunday?

I put a fuel pump in each of the three Chevy products I previously owned. NEVER AGAIN! I new buy Nissan.

I am in LR, if you were within 2 hours or so I would come scoop you up. What is your immediate plan?

Check the relay under the hood. Just put a new pump in my truck and it was the relay. Wasted my time and money.

Where are you at, Brownsville?  I live in Lakeland.

If you are looking for a dealership, you are probably closest to Serra Chevrolet, (901) 382-5644.

If you are looking for an parts place, closest are Autozone (901) 388-8668 and Advance Auto (901) 371-0388.

As to getting work done on Sunday, I don't know any around here that work Sunday.

Try posting in the Tennessee forum, maybe someone knows of a shop that works Sunday.

Do you need the number for a towing place?

Ifyou decide to tow it to Memphis be aware that the dealerships and repair places closest to the interstate are close to a mall and its a true cluster right now.  Right off of I40 at exit 18 there is a Sears service center that has done good by me for quite a while (2800 N Germantown Pkwy in the Wolfchase Galleria parking lot).  They will be able to fix almost any problem you have and get you back on the road.  Another plus is there are hotels within walking distance.  I'm afraid you're going to be spending the night no matter where you go.  You can also ask to have it towed to the Serra Chevrolet on Hwy 64 if you prefer a dealership.  Its about a little over a mile from the interstate.  (7860 Hwy 64, Memphis TN 38133 for your tow driver) and I hope it is still open.  So many of those dealerships have gone under recently.  Keep your wits about you walking out there.

If I can be of any more help, post back and I will call you and give whatever help I can.

Sitrep... Getting towed to Memphis. Either Sears or Firestone, as they do Sunday work. Will try to repair it myself once wheels down in the parking lot. If I can't the pros get to try.

Will update... iPhone internet is slow here, so my responses are limited and delayed. Thanks for all the support folks. Got a call from a really nice ARFCommer who suggested SEARs... Didn't catch the name and the tow truck cab is loud, but thanks to that man.

Does Firestone do fuel pumps?  They replaced all my belts there a few months ago.  O'Charlies and Hooters are right next door.

IIRC, Firestone opens at 8AM on Sunday.

That's the place. Sitting there now. Walking distance to a 24hr gas station and a Wal Mart, which is good for me to repair it myself... I'm hoping there's a 24hr Autozone nearby too, about to check.

Try the number I have listed above for autozone.  They will be about a mile and a half or so back East down 64.  I live behind the Kroger you will pass going there.

If you are still in warranty I believe there is a provision to cover your hotel expenses while you are away from home until your truck is fixed.

ETA: 03, nevermind.

Were the 03's drive by wire?  I've seen lots of throttle position sensors go out on DBW Silverados.

Fuel filter looks fine, all fittings good. No leaking gas anywhere... filter could be clogged by some weird debris I guess, but unlikely.

By my count, that leaves fuel pump (mechanical or electrical failure), or a failure with something that tells the fuel pump to work (relay, etc).

The pump having just been replaced... Most likely a loose electrical connection on the pump, a bad pump, a bad relay or an undiagnosed electrical problem.

Thanks for the heads up... I'm not defenseless, but always try to avoid trouble...

I'm going the route of checking stupid shit first, going to check the fuses. After that, the relay. Next comes the wires to the fuel pump.

Well, all the fuses are good. Would have to test the relay.

The Autozone is a long walk. By the time I get there and back, the Firestone would almost be open... Might as well not go into unknown areas to save a few hours... If shit went down I could get stuck here for days.

That leaves dropping the tank, checking the wires and connections...

There's one right across the street.

Getting food first. Steak 'n Shake looks interesting.

As far as I can tell, a fuel pump that was NIB two days ago just died on me... I figure it was made in the same factory as Space Shuttle O-rings, Titanic rivets and Lorcin firing pins.

If you didn't put a new filter on when you put the new fuel pump on, I'd sure get one and put it on for no more than they cost. Could very well be a clogged filter burnt up the pump you replaced.

Oh yeah, and if you put a pump on from Advanced or Auto Zone, you've learned a hard lesson - put a GM PUMP back on it. More expensive but should last the same mileage as the original one did. I've NEVER had any luck out of aftermarket fuel pumps.

If you think it is the relay you can jump the connector with a wire to see if the pump runs. Wire is preferable but I have used a paperclip before.
