Its Friday, was just cleaning a random gun in my collection that I usually EDC in the summer and figured id share.

Definitely nothing special compared to anything around here, but I love it.

Grew up in Massachusetts, and my father and mother were no gun toting republicans by any means. Mother didn't like the things and my father was indifferent, or so he told me.

Come to find out when I was 13 YO, snooping around, I found some .38 Sp rounds laying around and my fathers LTC (license to carry in MA)... Told me that before I was born, he had a pair of snubnose .38's but sold them after I was born because my mother forced him too.

Flash forward a year to being 14, and I was HOOKED on guns. Joined ARFCOM and was trying to convince my father to buy an AR. Unfortunately he passed suddenly a month or so later.

Well, years went by and in 2014 my mother went to sell the house. I had heard a year earlier from one of my fathers old friends that there was no way he sold both .38's and that he knew there was one still in our house.

Decided to snoop around and thanks to some thoughts on this board, I looked all around where he would have kept it accessible by his bedside. Well his closet next to the bed had a stairwell up to the attic. Snooped around and found the .38 sitting in a cigar box under insulation in between the floor joists of the attic right above the door.

It was a Smith and Wesson Model 49.

Long story short, I never did get to shoot with my dad, or have any gun collection passed down, but I love having this thing.

Nice find. Looks to be in great condition for sitting in a box all this time

CSB.

For real, that is a great find.

Lucky thing you mentioned it to your dad's friend.

Sorry about your dads passing.
Congrats on finding the Model 49

Sorry to hear about your dad, but it's awesome that you found one of his guns. It's also awesome that he hid it instead of selling it .

Good story and one nice pistol. Thanks for sharing, glad you found it.

You owe that guy a steak dinner, and leave an open seat because your Dad will want to be with you guys too.

Very nice revolver. You could strip and re stain and refinish the grips if you wanted to do so. I have done that with good results to a M10.
Was it in the leather holster all these years?

Very true.

It was, also had a ziplock bag with ~30 rounds and the receipt from the pawnshop he got it from. $50

I can't see the picture (issue on my end), but glad you found the pistol and know you will keep it forever.

I'd leave it just as is. That thing is in beautiful shape and the grips are original to the gun. No reason to change a thing.

Edit: I see the grip does have some finish wear, but I'd still leave it alone.

That's pretty cool. Similar deal, when my great grandfather passed we found a perfect condition Savage 1907 .32acp in his things. My grandmother remembered him having it but no one had seen in in 40 years!

Wouldn't that be your moms gun now?

Finally a cool story, that is actually the real deal. You're lucky to have had a Father that cared so much for you. Thank you for sharing.

I wouldn't change a thing on that beauty, it's perfect the way it is now.

Very nice shape considering it probably saw very little attention for years.

Very cool OP. My dad had 3 guns and 3 boys. I got the 16 gauge model 67 Stevens pump shotgun I learned on.

Very nice. Adding, it's always cool to read stories like this here. Enjoy.
