Good luck - if you find them, let me know.  The time is now to start switching out from fixed-income equities since interest rates will soon go up.

Check out the tankers like NAT.

Do your due diligence.

Too bad buying individual stocks is a bit of a waste of money (fees, etc.) unless you have a lot of money.  I like the dollar cost averaging that mutual funds do for you, and the ability to invest small amounts every month with no transaction fees every month.

Look under the blue line that say's " Key Financial Indicators" the box under that has a scroll down it say's "Dividend Yield".

As I understand it, some companies will let you buy the stock directly from them without the middle man and allow you to re-invest the dividend or take it in cash. You can still dollar cost average with regular stocks. I think a mutual fund is probably the safer bet for a beginner as they are more diversified and stable as a whole.

Go to any newspaper with a good financial section such as Wall Street Journal or New York Times.  In the Times on Sunday there is a comprehensive list of stocks with the dividend amounts - those are listed on a $/share basis.  To get rates (percentages) you will have to take the share price into account.  Utilities are one class of stock that typically pay larger than average dividends.

Known as DRIPs (Dividend reinvestment programs).

There is no stock for the mid level investor that iwll pay off enough dividends to be worth investing in.  If you are buying the stock before the witching hour and dumping it after being holder of record, and your quantity is large enough to offset brokerage fees, and the stock does not do anything bad, you may see a small profit.  There are easier ways to earn 2%.

No, if you are planning on buying and holding a stock that is a different story, but your investment strategy has to be a 25 year plan, or even longer.  But again, you are not talking about any kind of real profit.

Definately long term. Just thought it would be nice to earn something in addition to whatever the stock might go up to and keep reinvesting it to buy more.

Yep.  Too bad 80% of funds are turds, and 90% of people invest in those turds.  Unless you want to actively try to play the market by analyzing the current hot fund each year, just throw it in a S&P 500 Index or something.  Those outperform 80% of all funds.

FolioFN has a list of the highest paying dividend stocks.  Don't know if you need an account, but I'll hop over there and get the list.

Use the MSN Stock Screener. You can only use it with IE and it requires you install a small plugin but otherwise it works very, very well. I use it all the time and have good luck with it (Searching anyways, stock picking is a different story!)
