Segal is a strange dude, and I really don't care for his "Lawman" show, but I respect him as a martial artist and I suspect he would drop a LOT of guys who look a lot tougher than he is.

Interesting video, Machida and Silva did go on to both own their matches.

Fixed it for ya.

I was snapping a couple pics of him from about 10ft away and he gave me this look that seemed to indicate he wanted to shove the camera up my ass sideways.

I've trained with some of his students (not impressed) and talked with him on the phone and found him to be very nice and polite

I love how Seagal talks in English with a Mexican/Portuguese accent with these guys.

I'd also like to see Seagal in a no bullshit fight to see if what he teaches actually works.

Ask Belfort and Coture if it works.

I am not a huge fan of Aikido and believe Boxing/Thai Boxing and Jujitsu are far more effective in real world applications, but Segal is the real deal.

If a fighter of Anderson Silva's caliber believes in what he has to offer, that is good enough for me.

he actually stopped and took a picture with me, but he was a little standoffish.  who knows though, maybe he had just killed a bunch of terrorists or something and was in a bad mood.  you have to cut the guy some slack.  we're both lucky to have been near him and still be alive.

Wha? Machida and Silva are in their primest of respective primes, Vitor has been broken for years and Couture is 300 years old.

That was a pre-fight PR stunt, nothing more.

I know some folks who trained in Aikido who can't stand that he uses it as an offensive style in his movies...

Me, I'm from the "if I can get it to work, I'll gladly steal it from any style" crowd, Aikido has some good moves if you take the time to learn them, but they do require more experience and finesse than just pounding somebody into the ground :-)

This.

Anderson has admitted that Segal was brought into Blackhouse in order to help increase his popularity in the states.

Ran into him in a store in Mt Shasta one time (Tiny organic produce kind of place).  Yes, the guy is huge.  Kind of the first impression he makes.  Can't imagine someone picking a fight with him no matter what.  But truthfully he seemed kind of shy.  His security detail entered the store first and were at the exits.  Me and my GF were shopping there post backpacking.  He was trying to squeeze past people in the aisles and seemed, well, sort of shy and embarrassed about the whole scene.  Smiling, saying excuse me and so on.  Kind of funny actually to see this famous guy in a mandarin top/buckskin jacket sorting through the produce...  We were waiting behind him in checkout.  I said, "I can't help but recognize you.  Whatcha up here for?" and he said, "Scouting for a movie and maybe some property.  Pretty part of the state" or something like that.  We chatted briefly about the backcountry areas and he bought a pint of blueberries and left with his posse in (of course) a black Suburban.  GF says, "Who was that?"    She had no idea until we got home and I rented "Under Siege".

don't think Seagal taught Silva anything, that front kick to Belfort's face was a basic Muay Thai teap kick. I think these guys are just being nice to the old fella and humoring him
