Remove the luggage rack from the front end of the sidecar. Install a gun mount for a light machinegun.

Ural sidecar with some homebrew racks?
An old Steib would fit the bill a little better, I suppose its doable though, if you toss a bunch of metal trinkets all over that have no purpose or function... |

Terribly sorry, old man, but if you wish to go steampunk with your hack, the Steib bullet (preferably a nice replica) is the only way to fly: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_i_AovfzNXgQ/TFxXNDGV1MI/AAAAAAABQI4/BTaPnvlj3rc/s1600/DSCN2013.JPG That, sir, is all sex appeal. |

Just one little facet of the futility and sad legacy of war is how many of those fine examples of cycle hardware were destroyed during WWII. Sorry to be Capt. Bringdown! Actually, I love your setup, but your Bimmer is WAAAAY to shiny to look right with the finish on the rest of the rig . . . |

Chang-jiangs are actually much closer to the pre-war German design, including the details of the bike and motor. I'd love to have a C-J! Woo-hoo, post # 3000! |

That jacket.. uhh... well it looks like it belongs in a 3rd rate gay porn flick.
Like the bike though. |

Are they actually good bikes or are they made in china crap? I remember looking at them and would love a Wehrmacht replica version, but was unsure if its one of those things that after you drive it once, you leave parts laying on the road. |

My own experience is with a single-wheel drive Dnepr (Model 11), which is the no-frills version of the Ural, basically just EXACTLY what was used in Soviet service. Word was that there were two paint schemes at the Dnepr plant: black, for the cops, and green for the army. "Export" models got "pinstriping", if you want to be kind . That being said, the Dnepr was tough. I think my best friend and I would have broken it, if possible. He still has it, unbroken, and is quite an authority on the russian sidecar bikes. BTW, riding in the sidecar is surprisingly comfortable; this is from personal experience, and I'm 6'1" tall and weigh 265. As for the Chinese version, again, it was basically an army bike, and there is no incentive to make a flimsy piece of crap for the Chicom army; can you say re-education camp, Fong? The one C-J I had the opportunity to examine was hell-for-stout. If you can find one reasonable, and it runs (test-ride is mandatory), grab it. Will it be as reliable and comfortable as a new Yamaha? Shit, no! Will it be a bucket of fun everytime you take it out for a spin? Damn right! |

Of course, they are an appreciating collectible as well. |

Sidecar needs rivets, brass rails, a hand crank attached to the front, and a sooty smokestack somewhere with some brass valves on it. THEN it will be steampunk.
