I hear this is a place that serves steak burgers?
Worth visiting if I see one? |

Depends on where you find one. College town? Yes. Near a poor area (judge for yourself) HELL NO.
Those are the TWO extremes of service i've had. Expect HS kids everywhere but college towns, and slack management. EDIT* It really is a shame because I do like their food, just the service has gone to hell because the HS kids don't know how to give a fuck about anyone but themselves. |

Well, the shakes are good. Everything else is mediocre at best.

There are good ones and there are bad ones. We make them regret their kids eat free policy many weekends as you can also use a coupon - you can get meals, drinks and shakes for a family of 4 for under $20 after tip. You can't even do that at a straight up fast food joint any more.

Tried it out for the first time last week when I was in Chattanooga looking for houses. It was pretty tasty, but nothing super special.

Better than McDonalds/Burger King not quite as good as In&Out/Culvers.

I love steak and shake. Best fast food-ish burgers I've ever had. Sometimes they short change you on fries, but ask and ye shall receive.
The prices are great too. I think I paid $8 for a deluxe steak burger, salt and pepper fries, a drink and a shake. |

I've only been to one and it was good with good service but like every other chain I'm sure there are bad ones out there

I used to like them as a kid. Old fashioned burger, fries and milkshake, sitting at the counter and all that jazz. But the burgers are pretty small (though they are tasty) and, as mentioned, they have he tendency to kind of lack in cleanliness. |
|
I like their food, but CANNOT eat it in the restaurant because of the overwhelming grease smell. It literally makes me sick to my stomach just walking in the place. I will hit up the drive through occasionally, though.

It's the fast food establishment that keeps other fast food establishments in business. It reminds you that fast food can always get worse. They must have a secret menu item where they shake your steak, or they would be out of business already.

I like them. grew up with steak and shake, use to be the hangout when you got your drvrs lsc and dad's car. they had curb service back then, flash your lights they would run out and take your order.
love their hamburgers, don't let the haters deter you from trying one. I get mine with thousand island dressing. |

Finally got one in the South Point Hotel here in vegas. Go once a month maybe twice always great food good price. Place is always packed doesnt matter what time day or night.
|
|
So are they steak burgers or something like steak-ums? That 7x7 looks pretty fucking good to me...
|
|
We have several locally, even the last one to do car hop service. I can't remember having a bad meal.
The price what keeps me coming back. Original triple with cheese fries and water is less than $6. |
|
I like them, but they must be eaten the instant they come off the grill. Then they still have that delicious crisp crust on the outside of the patty. 5 or 10 minutes driving home, or getting back on the interstate, or your waitress finishing her cigarette before you get it and it's about 50% as awesome. Still better than McDonald's, but not great.

It depends on the location of the Steak n shake
OK shakes, great burgers (I like them thin ) and lousy shoestring fries. I wrote to corporate asking for steak fries and got no answer. |
|
The wife and I liked it. We got the Garlic double with cheese the last time we were there. 2 burgers, fries and soft drinks for $13 and change. Not too bad.

Individual stores are a gamble. Mine near my house is a complete gamble .could be good or bad food is usually decent service can be hit or miss.

Not bad. We have one near the house, only visit it once or twice a year if that.

The 3 Steak and Shake stores in my town ROCK! Check this link for the receipe for their crock pot chili - yes, it has beans (as all chili should), plus cocoa powder and cola.

I greatly prefer Steak and Shake to any of the other local grease chains.
If you like Culvers they are similar. |
|
The one by where I used to live in FL was very clean with good help. I used to get take out burgers and fries often. Late night drinking? Chili bomb with raw onion lol
|
|
Ok, shakes, dry burgers, shitty fries. Don't waste your money.

The term vomitorium is appropriate for the swill the pass off as food.

|
|
