It looks like the stuff we distribute is only powerful enough to damage the weapon.  And how can they know that it wasn't some other sort of failure

Some of the Forward Observers in my Battalion would NOT touch captured AKs in Iraq because they heard from a guy that knows a guy that here was booby trapped ammo out there.

That's ok I shot probably 100 of them no problem.

The guy reporting is C.J. Chivers who wrote The Gun which is a great book about the history and development of the AK47 and automatic weapons in general.

What, that ziploc baggie of ammo may not be as good as the Navy SEAL/DELTA/Ranger said  for my Glock fo-tay?

Doesn't any ammo you put in a Glock do that?

Coming to a walmart near you.... Or to the LGS that buys from walmart and marks up.

First you ban new AR 15's

Then you spike the ammo destroying existing AR's

I wonder how bad the wounds were for the Contractor that was shooting the AK?

I took a class for IED detection from a guy who claimed they smuggled in cases of hand grenades to the Iraqi army before Desert Storm that would blow as soon as the grenade was armed.

What did they do? Replace the powder with some explosive substance? (The tan and white crystal looking stuff)

The guy dropping the mortar round got it bad.

I highly doubt we did it.

I remember reading our sneaky folks went to great lengths to get the explosive filler to look like actual gunpowder just in case the enemy ever caught on and started taking ammo apart. I don't see a reason they'd just throw that all away. I'll bet someone was inspired by it though

In Afg in 2009, we escorted one of the teams that distributed salted ammo and other things. It's out there, and it will f you up, and it is more than just rifle rounds.

McNasty,

This may be a question for another thread, but have you ever toyed with forming brass?

We used the get special mags for AKs in 05 from the spooks. We would swap them out with magazines that we found when searching houses. Third round I think was the Ali baba round.

THe iraqis supposedly drilled holes in barrels of rifles to cause them to explode at the chamber . I have seen pictures of this somewhere. Old tactic. Just all odds .

Instead of actually doing it, it's easier to simply drop leaflets saying we did it.

The way ammo is stored and sometimes misused substantiated the leaflets.
