I Know You

Wow... a training tape for the future Columbine kids.

Too fat? stop eating Twinkies! Get off the damned XBox!

Too skinny? EAT! Start working out!

Stinky? Take a damned shower!

No friends? Stop the self pity and ask yourself why!

I am so sick of people whining, I bet the hippies love this crap.

BTW, none of that was directed at you AR82.

I dont suppose its ever occured to you that its not that easy. I made friends, if you could call it that, by being the target of alot of insults and laughter at my expense. But I used that to get out of that circle, so it sort of worked. But its nothing I would do again.

Things add up to where you dont want to be a part of any of it. I know. I felt that way at the age of 7, but had no way to rid the world of myself.

Try having a heart and listening before you dismiss someone with your label of the day. They may actually be serious.

There is a really good kis about to graduate HS here that I can point to when people say that these ideas are "too harsh."

And you don't think I might have dealt with that sort of crap myself? Up until I was around 13 I never had new clothes, I wore 2nd or 3rd gen hand-me-downs (that got me made fun of plenty). I was too skinny & small (got made fun of for that too). I had lots of these same problems when I was a kid.

Thing was I didn't curl up into a shell & cry about it. When I was about 9 I had a bully picking on me, when I got home and told my stepfather about it he proceeded to invite the bully over & told us to sort it out (scared the hell out of me). The bully attacked me and we proceeded to throw down. He was a lot bigger than me and I took a whoopin but I learned not to run from my problems from that day on.

When you have a problem, stand up and meet it head on. This self pity only teaches men how to cry about their problems, not how to fix them... damned victims.

In defense of the kids though, many might not have parents that teach them to face their problems, thats a failing of the parents.

Lifes a bitch, get a f**king helmet!

It's the Republicans fault. If they'd followed through with their grand scheme to steal kid's school lunches in the '90's, there wouldn't be any fat kids today.
Link Posted: 8/30/2004 8:19:33 PM EST
I knew kids like that in school, and know adults like that now. It is sad. For those who say stop with the pitty party, wait until your child doesn't fit in.

Who needs friends? Grow some nuts and get used to being alone. If you have one good friend who will stick with you through everything, you're luckier than most people. That's just the way life is, and it could be a hell of a lot worse. There are millions of people in the world that would gladly switch places with even the most bullied kid in America.

There are a lot of better things you can do with your time other than feeling sorry for yourself.

Teenage angst is a load of shit brought on by a narrow, ignorant view of the world. In The Neutral Observer's opinion, all kids need a severe ass-kicking at least once around the age of 13, just to toughen them up and remind them of how much worse it can get if they act like shitheads.

The entire poem is about solitude, and what drove the person there. "You dont trust people, you know them too well."

The Neutral Observer will admit that He did not listen to the poem. Is there a text version anywhere? The wife is sleeping.

The Neutral Observer still feels that His opinions are valid regardless of the content of the poem, however.

I think I know you.
You

Are a loser.
Link Posted: 8/30/2004 8:56:48 PM EST
Here is the txt version.... If liking this makes me a "loser" lol I dont care, this poem is deep.

I know you
you were too short
you had bad skin
you couldn't talk to them very well
words didn't seem to work
they lied when they came out of your mouth
you tried so hard to understand them
you wanted to be part of what was happening
you saw them having fun
and it seemed like such a mystery
almost magic
made you think that there was something wrong with you
you'd look in the mirror trying to find it
you thought that you were ugly
and that everyone was looking at you
so you learned to be invisible
to look down
to avoid conversation
the hours
days
weekends
ah the weekend nights, alone
where were you
in the basement?
in the attic?
in your room?
working some job?
just to have something to do
just to have a place to put yourself
just to have a way to get away from them
a chance to get away from the ones that made you feel so strange and ill-at-ease inside yourself
did you ever get invited to one of their parties
you sat and wondered if you would go or not
for hours you imagined the scenarios that might transpire
they would laugh at you
if you would know what to do
if you would have the right things on
if they would notice that you came from a different planet
did you get all brave in your thoughts
like you were going to be able to go in there and deal with it
and have a great time
did you think that you might be "the life of the party"
that all these people were gonna talk to you
and you would find out that you were wrong
that you had a lot of friends
and you weren't so strange after all?
did you end up going
did they mess with you
did they single you out
did you find out that you were invited
because they thought you were so weird
yeah, I think I know you
you spent a lot of time full of hate
a hate that was pure as sunshine
a hate that saw for miles
a hate that kept you up at night
a hate that filled your every waking moment
a hate that carried you for a long time
yes I think I know you
you couldn't figure out what they saw and the way they lived
home was not home
your room was home
a corner was home
the place they weren't- that was home
I know you
you're sensitive
and you hide it, because you fear getting stepped on one more time
it seems that when you show a part of yourself that is the least bit vulnerable
someone takes advantage of you
one of them steps on you
they mistake kindness for weakness
but you know the difference
you've been the brunt of their weakness for years
and strength is something you know a bit about
because you had to be strong to keep yourself alive
you know yourself very well now
and you don't trust people
you know them too well
you try to find that "special person"
someone you can be with
someone you can touch
someone you can talk to
someone you won't feel so strange around
and you found that they don't really exist
you feel closer to people on movie screens
yeah, I think I know you
you spend a lot of time daydreaming
and people have made comment to that effect
telling you that you're "self-involved" and "self-centered"
but they don't know, do they
about the long nightshifts alone
about the years of keeping yourself company
all the nights you wrapped your arms around yourself
so you could imagine someone holding you
the hours of indecision
self-doubt
the intense depression
the blinding hate
the rage that made you stagger
the devastation of rejection
well
maybe they do know
but if they do
they sure do a good job of hiding it
it astounds you how they can be so smooth
how they seem to pass through life as if life itself was some divine gift
and it infuriates you to watch yourself with your apparent skill,
and finding every way possible to screw it up
for you, life is a long trip
terrifying and wonderful
birds sing to you at night
the rain and the sun
the changing seasons
are true friends
solitude is a hard won ally
faithful and patient
yeah, I think I know you

ooooooh.....Im sorry Mike.....there is no room for compassion here in the arfcom GD. You see, we are too busy sitting behind our keyboards judging other people, giving shitty advice, feeding our porn addiction, fabricating and testing tinfoil beanies, and waiting for the man to kick in the door and burn the place down . So take that compassion shit somewhere else pal.....

Yup--and I still just HATE poetry, if that counts as "poetry" (isn't poetry supposed to rhyme every so many lines or something?).

The Neutral Observer has a high opinion of real poetry. If you want to read some very dark and deep poetry, read anything by Keats. This is a man who was suffering from TB, knew for years that his own death was imminent, and died at age 24. It gave him a unique and interesting viewpoint. His works might make you reconsider your feelings about the genre.

The poets of times past were men who were masters of the English language. Russian authors are also generally technically brilliant if you can read them in their native Russian. The Neutral Observer is not so keen on the newer trends in literature, though. It seems like you could defecate into a box and write "poetry" on the side in black magic marker, and someone somewhere would call it "a brilliant work."

I am not alone, I have all you asses yo keep me company, Seriously I work from home so don't get out alot. I have learned to love small spaces and being by myself.

Now when I am with a group of people I just get pissed off with the stupid shit they talk about.
Friends aren't all they are cracked up to be. Just wait until WWIII AND ALL YOUR FRIENDS ARE DEAD!!! Then who will you talk too?

That's Henry Rollins' spoken word. He's best known for his work as the lead singer of seminal punk band Black Flag and his work in Rollin's Band. That kid he's talking about is himself, and he turned into this:

Maybe you remember him from a little movie named HEAT?

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

Nope, poetry does not have to rhyme at all. Blank and Free verse are two examples of poetic styles that do not require rhyme. Poetry is measure more in Iambs than rhymes. Who wrote this poem? And does AR82 have something he would like to share? Why is this poem important to you, and why can you relate to it?
Link Posted: 8/30/2004 9:35:21 PM EST
The Neutral Observer isn't too big on punk, and He never got past the first 30 minutes of Heat. The Neutral Observer just couldn't get interested in it for some reason.

The Neutral Observer guesses that makes Him the oddball here.

See my last post with the pics. It's not a poem. It's a spoken word piece done by Henry Rollins.

I think talking about yourself in the third person is more oddball than not liking HEAT, but opinions vary around here.

I had it happen to me at home, work, here, it happens everywere to everyone. When it comes down to it, I rather conversate with my dog. lol no more beer for me tonight.....

I hate those too--only more--it sure doesn't take talent to string together a bunch of morose, disjointed phrases. Real poetry is bad enough, and at least it takes some talent and language skill to make a cogent point and have it rhyme to boot.

I'm a poet. I have been focusing on Italian sonnets, but I also write free verse, blank verse, and prose. Try it sometime, it is harder than it looks.

Doh!. Mopar Mike (bummer on the initials) has the right idea and beat 'Parshooter' to the punchline. That third person crap freaks "Parshooter" out every time "Parshooter" sees it. "Parshooter" is of the opinion that anyone that would continually write that way, needs "Parshooter" to kick the dildo through their ass, all the way out their ears. (figure of speach, not a threat). And there never has been, nor there ever will be a dildo in "Parshooter's" ass. (God willing, they don't arrest me for this post.) Dammnit!. That third person crap is so Fucked Up, it has "Parshooter" twisting in knots. This ain't the damned bards review. STOP IT!.
Yea, you hit a nerve, so now just STFU with that BobDole weird-freaky shit.

'Scuse me', apologies by 'Parshooter', and 'Parshooter' encourages others to please resume the fat kids thread.

Just what I was waiting for, another post which gives me the opportunity to rail against the pussification of America!

These hippies and women have this day-care center world view where the most important "value" is tolerance and not being "judgemental". Really, if being a disgusting fat body floats your boat, make a day of it and never look back, but don't try and browbeat everyone else to put their arm around you and approve of your choice. The problem I have with it is all of the obese kids you see nowadays. These kids are growing up never knowing what it feels like to enjoy simple health and the virtue of basic athleticism. It really is tragic. It makes me believe that, long term, our Nation is doomed.

You're calling the author of that piece, Henry Rollins, a pussy?

This guy?

That clinches it.

How about one of his other pieces?

I reach deep inside myself I rip out
a handful of bleeding crackling
wires I squeeze the juice out
I burn them out I want to see where
the truth lies I want to see where
it all breaks down I walk down the
mouth of every beast I can find So
I can see what's at the end That's
the only part that interests me
The end The rest is all getting there

Henry Rollins is one of the most spaced-out far-left whackos you can imagine. Don't let the appearance fool you. Part of that whole Rage Against the Machine (whose music I love, BTW) America-is-a-dark-and-rotten-place crowd.

First of all, never EVER use my name and beautiful in the same sentence. Second, my post was complete sarcasm. As far as the poem, I didnt even read it. I dont want to. My sarcasm is directed at the assholes on this board who continually bash and berate people less fortunate than themselves.

OH and I never called Rollins a pussy..........thats some rage I have no interest in seeing directed at me.

Here he is motioning to everyone just what he thinks of himself!

LOSER!

Not 'looser' although that may apply also!

Being alone is no loss. There's no need to be bothered if there are no people around.

People are assholes.

They may actually be serious.

ooooooh.....Im sorry Mike.....there is no room for compassion here in the arfcom GD. You see, we are too busy sitting behind our keyboards judging other people, giving shitty advice, feeding our porn addiction, fabricating and testing tinfoil beanies, and waiting for the man to kick in the door and burn the place down . So take that compassion shit somewhere else pal.....

dave223, you, sir, are a beuatiful person. A pussy must always be called by its proper name. This "poem" is one of the most pussified things I've ever seen.

I apologize for any offense. I didn't realize that this thread was devoted to the idea that Henry Rollins is a Deep Spiritual Guru Expounding on the Profound Truths of the Universe. If I had known that, I would have passed. I also apologize for referring to you as a beautiful (sorry for my spelling mistake, too!) person. Any complement was purely misdirected.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go hug an obese person and let them know that their situation is not, and could never be, their fault. I have seen the error of my previous jugdemental behavior. Cured, I am, cured!

No offense taken buddy. As previously stated, I don’t give a fuck about Rollins or his poem. As far as you hugging an obese person, that might not be such a bad idea. Obese people generally respond well to positive motivation. In fact, people in general usually respond well to positive motivation. You can tell somebody that they are fat and unhealthy because of their bad habits without being rude, cant you? You are completely free to treat folks any way you wish in this fine country. I simply don’t see the need to be a total fucking scumbag, jerk off, soulless, heartless, prick when referring to other people’s problems. YMMV. Have a nice day.

Yeah, one of the most space-out far-left whackos who is currently on his third tour with the USO, having already visited Kuwait, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Quatar, and Afghanistan:

Signing a bomb on an A-10.

He may not be the biggest fan of Bush, but he's said repeatedly that taking out Saddam was a good thing and that sometimes you just have to go kick ass. And the last time I checked, leftists didn't do USO tours and sign autographs for the troops.

Edited to make pics links because they're huge.
