We've had a couple threads lately about college and not only the stupidity that goes on outside the classroom, but about how college students are not as knowledgable as they once were in the past.
Perfect example.
Wenesday was the first class in my Business Finance Class. Its a 300 level course, and you figure that the students would have some basic understanding of math right? I mean the prerequisits are Accounting 1 and 2, Macro and Micro econ and Statistics 1; and all business majors have to complete math through calculus 2, and by this point (junior year...its a 300 level class) most should have the math done as well.
So the instructor gives our first quiz. You know those take attendance by quiz things, and to give you a freebee full quiz grade to start off the year. The first three questions are lame, what is your favorite movie, where are you from. Whatever.
Questions four and five are:
"4) How many months are in a year? in two years? in three years?"
"5) How many quarters are in a year? in two years? in three years?
Now here is where it gets really hard
"6) If I give you a $100 that you put into a savings account that pays an interest rate of 1.5% annually, what will be the future value of your deposit one year from the date you deposit the money?"
"7) 8 * (3-5) + 16 = ? "
"8) 16 + (3-5) * 8 = ? "
"9) 4 + 6/2 - 3 + 4 * 2 = ? "
"10) Solve for x: 3x * 0.5=50 + x "
Now I said this was supposed to be an easy grade right. Only catch is you can't use a calculator. You don't need it. Basic basic math. Right? Guess not.
He hands back the "quizes" today. two 10/10's (mine and someone elses...I think the chinese kid
) two 9/10's two 8/10's and the rest were 7/10's
WTF!?!?!?!
These dumbasses My classmates can't even do some simple math when they are supposed to have had:
Macro Econ
Micro Econ
Stats 1
Accounting 1
Accounting 2
Calculus 1
Calculus 2
PATHETIC!!!!!
