I remember back about ten years or so ago when electric cars were supposed to be the ecologically correct car to drive.
Electric cars use batteries which are polluting to manufacture and dispose of. They have a short range because battery technology just isn’t up to the job of powering a vehicle. Electric cars have to be charged off the poser grid, and cars require a huge amount of power. (1 HP is about 750 watts.) This electricity has to come from somewhere and it’s usually going to come from coal plants or gas turbines. And that means electric cars don’t really reduce CO2 emissions.
And back then an electric car cost about $35,000.00 You could buy very nicely equipped full sized new car for about $20K back then and a midsized new car for about 15K…
Most pollution comes from older cars, and these older cars are mostly driven by working class folks who can’t afford any better. I wondered why the people who were buying electrics just didn’t buy themselves a conventional full sized car for 20K and then find some poor family with an old clunker and buy them a 15K car. Junk their old smog machine and everyone would come out ahead. There would be less total pollution and everyone would be driving a better vehicle.
The reason this didn’t happen was that the liberals who bought electrics just wanted to show off their environmental consciousness.
