I really want to try one but the local franchise owner is an asshole and isn't getting a dime from me. I'll have to wait until I can make it to Oklahoma City.

Does it come with extra corruption and a side of graft?
ETA: They could make it a Daley special. |

DAMMIT!
I was sitting at working trying to figure out what I want for dinner. I had just threw a pizza in the oven and then sat down to see this thread. Wish I had seen it ten minutes earlier. Oh well, I know what's for lunch tomorrow! I may get one of each tomorrow just cause. Yeah, I is fat. |
|
The other night i was on the way back from selling a gun and stopped by a local burger joint that has great food.... for eats when I got home.
A few minutes out the wife calls and says stop by sonic for a treat for her and kiddos. Then I see the Chicago dogs sign and bought two as well Got home, handed out treats, atet my dogs first and shoved the burger in the fridge for later. Its still sitting in there Quoted:

I had one of these recently and it was alright but did not compare to the real thing. Nice attempt though for the uninformed.
|
|
if it has the exact same bun and condiments isnt it a "REAL " chicago dog?
Or does one need to travel to Barry's home state and pay prolly $10 for one at some authentic place that uses the exact same shit? Come on. Quoted:

I had one of these recently and it was alright but did not compare to the real thing. Nice attempt though for the uninformed. Attitudes like these are very hard to defend. As said earlier, the same condiments in the same proportions on the same kind of food net the same hot dog. I've been all over this country and have had some "authentic" fill in the blank from where ever it's supposed to have been "invented." I can make, in my own kitchen, anything anyone else can make from the very specific region it's supoosed to be "from." Chicago dogs, Philly cheese steaks, New York pizza, Buffalo wings .... whatever, it's just a recipe. There's nothing magical about the celery salt or neon green relish in Chicago. Now, if you want to say that the weiners, themselves, which are served with the hot dog are "different" then, I'd be more apt to agree with you. They are, however, not "unique" to any one place any more than any other recipe is. I do doubt that sonic is grinding its own 100 year old recipe of hot dog. The whole "my region's food is only available in my region and all others are just pretenders which the 'uninitiated' can never know anything about" is an attitude that has long passed it's expiration date. The fact is that I can get anything I want from any region I want, in a city of the right size, which is as good (if not better) than anything I can get in the region we're discussing. |

Oh boy. There's definitely a difference between NY cheese pizza in Kentucky (where I live) and genuine NY pizza. That being said I've never had a Chicago dog, will probably try one tomorrow. |

Last time i ate there i spent 2 days on the shitter feeling like hell from their breakfast sammiches. So much for first and last impressions.

Sonic manager here guys.
We obviously just released 3 new hot dogs. The 6" variety is now all beef. You can get your regular chili cheese, American which comes with ketchup, mustard, relish and onions, the New York dog which is sourkraut, grilled onions and spicy mustard, and the Chicago dog. Poppy seed bun, relish, onions, tomato, mustard, sport peppers, pickle spear, and celery salt. The special introductory price is 1.99, it'll go up to 2.59 when it becomes a permanant item on the menu. So definitely try them out right now. |

I have to disagree. There are elements that change restaurant to restaurant. The seasoning of the grill, individual recipes, locally sourced produce versus frozen shipped alternatives, all of these things can affect the taste and texture of the meal. While the broad strokes can be replicated, there remain individual differences. As a Texan, you must have had BBQ. I am sure that the quality of BBQ in Texas is substantially higher than the quality of BBQ in Pa. Sure there maybe one or two good restaurants in Pa. But they are the exception and not the rule. |
