So, I have had my car For Sale for 3 months. Mint 94 6 SPD TT Toyota Supra, 35,500 Miles.

I have a buyer flying into Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow to hand me a Cashiers Check for a very considerable amount and drive it back to his garage, 3 states away.

I decided to change the oil/filter for the new owner before his 14 hour drive back, with his daughter, and while I had the car up I noticed some uneven wear on the drivers side front tire. So I rotate it a bit and what do I find? Cord is showing, just a little bit. Passenger side tire is even worse for wear. Fuck!!!!!!

At this point I will be out $500.00 dollars tomorrow when I replace the tires because I can't allow the new owner and his daughter to drive it the way it stands right now. If I hadn't decided to change the oil, I would be none the wiser about the condition of the insides of the tires. They look perfect from the outside, only worn on the inside toe.

Thanks for the great alignment job Tire Plus.

Gonna have it aligned or just hide the problem with new tires?

Is $500 for 2 or 4? If it's 4 you can just get 2 instead. Just expalin to the buyer what happened and that you'll pay for the 2 and it's up to him if he wants to replace the other 2 when he gets home at some point.

I'm going to mention the tires to the buyer as soon as I pick him up from the airport in the morning. That will be followed by an offer to replace them and have the alignment done, out of my pocket.

That was you're screw up for going there. Lesson learned, you'll be okay. Find a good dealer or independent. (Pro shops)

Way cool of you for taking care of it for the new owner, too.

Only the front tires, the rears are new as of 2 years and 5,000 miles ago. They still are in Like New condition, with zero uneven wear.

I predict that you are going to miss that car.

You will also spend 6 times what you're selling it for to get a similar one in 30 years.

ooo.  that's clean.  nice car.

of course you know your front end's outta line.  tires for that car + FEA (front end alignment) is gonna be right around $500.  just go to the bank, get the cash, give it back to the guy when he gets there, take his cashier's check and make sure he's good with the deal.  don't go to "discount" tire/alignment shops.  they're always fucked, because they don't pay their people enough, so the guy that gets trained goes for the better paycheck, yadda yadda yadda.

NTB is not the lowest priced unit around, but their guys have health care and a decent wage, and do good work, with a nationwide warranty.

my 2 cents.  nice car, did i say that already?  really.  sounds like you're a stand-up kinda guy.  i'd do business with you.

Please don't remind me. I already know.

But, it will be worth the peace of mind of having almost all of my debt paid off with the exception of my mortgage. That is worth it's weight in gold in our current economy.

I'll get another some day. And you're right, I will pay out the ass for it.

Yeah, doing the right things sucks sometimes.

Last month I bought a sebenza pocket knife on ebay.

The seller accidentally ships me two.  I knew what I had to do, so I shipped the other back.  I figure what goes around comes around.

They are not easy to find in this condition. I spent 9 months of constant, everyday searching before I found mine. That was 4 years ago. As every year passes, they are getting more and more difficult to come by.

supraforums.com is a great place to start.

That buyer should join ARF, just so he can give you a +1 in the EE feedback.

Very nice Supra. I miss my 89 turbo, was my first car and miss it dearly. I know when the timing is right we will both find another one and both of us will pay out the ass, almost gladly.

I have a 1988 Toyota Celica, with just over 64K miles on it. I store it during the winter.

You'll be out even more if that cashier's check is NG.  Cashiers checks are routinely forged for big ticket purchases.  Banks know this and will not give cash for them like they used to do.  The bank will make you deposit the check and wait for it to clear.  A cashiers check is only one small bit better than a personal check.  Beware!

I recently sold one of my cars to an out-of-state buyer.  He sent me a personal check for the $1000 deposit, and a bank check a few days later for the balance.  I took both checks to my bank at the same time.  While I was at the bank, the branch manager got on the phone with the branch manager of the out-of-state bank, on which both checks were drawn, to verify that the checks were genuine and good.

I went home, and 20 minutes later got a call from my branch manager telling me that the checks were good as gold.  So, the process can be shorter than waiting 5 business days (or whatever) for the checks to "clear".

DON'T TAKE A CASHIER'S CHECK unless you are at the bank where it was written.

I agree 100%.

I did not receive a Cashiers Check. I received an Official Check form his Credit Union, a copy of with was faxed to me, and then verified as authentic/GTG. My bank has verified it already also.
