I'm thinking of selling my FAL and SAR3, which account for two thirds of my EBR collection, to fund a purchase of a nice levergun in .44 Mag.  For some inexplicable reason I think they are really cool... even though I've never even shot one before.

Okay, I'll admit it.  It was the 'Lincoln's Repeater' in Fallout 3 that made me want one.

You need to sell both of those to fund a .44 lever gun?

While classic lever rifles are indeed among the very coolest of firearms, the .44 Magnum isn't that powerful of a calibre in rifle terms. Read up on the ballistic performance; it isn't that impressive. It sure does kick ass in Fallout 3, though

But buying a lever gun isn't a silly idea at all. Just keep in mind that if you enjoy shooting your rifles from prone, that'll be rather difficult with a lever-action one.

DO NOT SELL.
Just buy the new Lever gun. And a case of loaded 44 mag JHP's
and of course some loading dies,  a few thousand large pistol primers, 8 or 9 pound s of powder,  a bullet mold, couple thousand jacketed hollowpoints, and then you will of course need a nice  heavy duty WHEEL gun in the same caliber. and the new revolver will of course need some decent leather. See, your not crazy.

yeah.
save money, buy the lever gun.

best case scenario. you have 4 guns.

worst case, you still have your very expensive banned weapons.

and are using them.

daily.

You are nuts because you want to sell them. Truth of the matter is, they suck and are dangerous. For a fee (from you) I will take them off your hands. You don't want to be nuts now do you?

I have a Marlin 1895G in .45-70 Gov't and I wouldn't even dream of selling one of my EBR's to buy one.

Why don't you ask in the HTF to see if anyone has one you could shoot to see if you like it?

uh oh a little cowboy gun fever
the lever guns aren't expensive, save up for one.
I would get a rifle caliber (re: 30-30) not the pistol caliber at first

For a total investment of $500 I bought two leverguns.  A Marlin 336 in .35 Remington for $200 and a Marlin 1894 in .44 magnum for $300.  Both were bought used, but are in excellent shape.  Look around a bit, good deals can be found.
