I have been wanting an SPR type rifle for some time and been contemplating some type of Mk12 clone, but this has me interested....

Other than tha fact that it is not worth $3k?

See, that's what I don't want to do is spend 3K on something that could be built for WAYYYY less....but damn, this would be too easy.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:34:28 PM EST

What does it do that a decent AR can't do for a 1/3 the price.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:34:34 PM EST
Where were you when I was selling cars ?

5.556mm = obscure ammunition. harder to find than the .2223, though ballistically similar.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:34:56 PM EST
If you buy it, congratulate yourself for buying into name brand marketing.

Whatever trips your trigger though.

Build one yourself and save.

A $1500 rifle with a $1500 scope makes more sense but it's your money and you should spend it on anything you damn well please.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:37:09 PM EST
I have a Bushmaster and a Plinker Plus, sorry man, can't get excited over a $3k AR.

Add up the parts and see what the price difference is.

I haven't put pen to paper but it seems pretty reasonable for what your getting.

Good Lord, you can get a GA Precision GAP Crusader for a couple hundred more. Don't be ridiculous.....
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:38:43 PM EST
... Properly staked carrier key ... I would sure hope so.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:40:45 PM EST
$3k and it comes with an ERGO grip?

If you truly understand that this rifle (or one of equal quality & style) can be built (by you) for WAYYYY less.. don't buy it. Sure, you'll love having it, but you'll ALWAYS know in the back of your head that you spent too much. The first time you see something in the $1K range and can't get 'cause you don't have $1k just layin' around... you may not love that rifle so much.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:41:37 PM EST
that is not worth 3k build it yourself and save 50%

I was thinking the same thing, but you put into much more eloquent terms.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:42:48 PM EST
For 3K I would get something different like a SCAR.

Gunbroker.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:43:47 PM EST
I'd offer 1000 bucks tops.

Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:45:29 PM EST
For 3k? and no Leupold Mark4 -3.5 - 10 LT/R included? I would pass and build my own. That is, If I had the 3k to spend.
1k - scope
1.5k - rifle
5 hundred - ammo
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:46:16 PM EST
No shoulder thing that goes up?!! I would pass on it.

Stripped lower $150
VIS $700
Barrel $300
VERY rough numbers for comparison sake

Parts kit $60
Trigger $120
Stock/tube spring $200
H buffer $30
Noveske rear mount $25
BUIS $250
FH $30
Bolt/carrier $150
gas block and tube $65
CH $20
Coating $150
Grip $30
Case and sling $150

$2280

I see a couple things I missed that would drive the price around $24-2500 for and exact copy.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:47:41 PM EST
Because the barrel isn't painted duh.

Definitely need to do that....I'm curious to see how those numbers would come out....

THIS.

I'd rather have an M1D for $3k than ANY AR for $3k.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:49:43 PM EST
$3K? I'd buy a crate of Turk Mausers and a crate of ammo instead.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:49:44 PM EST
Buy a Kreiger barreled SPR upper that Global Tactical has for $985. Mine shoots sub .5 moa 5-shot groups with factory black hills. Add lower of your choice with Geiselle trigger. You'll be at $2k max there.

Then add scope and mount. You'll be at $3k with a rifle that is complete and will shoot just as well, maybe better.

So, we're looking at roughly 5-600 bucks for labor and marketing.....my time is worth about that.....just maybe....

you can build it for less. Not a half the price but maybe two thirds. If you don't want the hassle of building and finishing in FDE then buy it. If you want this particular rifle and it's worth 3K to then buy it and shoot it's ass off it.

There are a lot of little things that add up quickly. BUIS, sling mounts, rail covers, sling, case ect Notice it also comes with a scope mount (extra $100 right there depending on quality)

I really dont see this as being THAT out of line.

If it were me though I would built it myself just so I got EXACTLY what I wanted for my money. I'm also not sold on the VIS.

If you've got the bucks and you really want it then buy it.

Life is short.
Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:54:31 PM EST
You could just put together a 18" LaRue Stealth for less than $2k. For $3k you could add a Mk 4 scope & mount.

Link Posted: 8/3/2009 4:58:41 PM EST
i have a better reason.

Because it is the same color as your patient's teeth! It will remind you of work!

That actually seals it for me. No dice on that gun.

Actually, it is missing some black spots too.....

I built my SPR for a hell of a lot less then $3k, more like $2500. It carries Magpul BUIS since I don't need $250 buis on a rifle that has a scope. All LaRue mounts and a Mk 4. When it's all said and done you could probably build a complete rifle off that GTS upper for $3k with everything you need.

Thanks for the help Sarge....I'm with you on this, spend the money to get exactly what I'd want....I'd probably ditch the ERGO and E-MOD for something else....

the first "limited editon noveske spr" had a magpul lower receiver i do believe. this would of made it a little more worth it.

Yeah...I'm thinking I'd put a UBR (or PRS) stock and MIAD grip on one of these...

Before you make a final decision look at the parts market. I havent built anything in several months but I know a few months ago you couldnt find shit. It may be that you can not find the parts you need to complete a build, thus making this a better deal.

I think the market/supply is catching up but I'm not sure. I banned my broke ass from looking too

No matter what a company can get away with charging, no AR is worth $3,000 without an optic. Most of those "features" aren't special at all.
