While driving thru Pa , i had a GPS display failure and ended up going thru the center of downtown Philadelphia down South Broad St while i tried to get back to the highway for about 30 minutes. While i raged at the red light i hit every block for 30+ blocks , i noticed some thing very odd . hundreds of cars all parked in the center median...for miles ! WTF?

if you click my link and do street veiw , you will see hundreds of empty cars for miles down the main street all parked in the centermedian. scroll it down the street , more cars... can some 14'er from Phily explain this?

link to the WTF parking , do street veiw . look at center lane/median ... empty cars parked face to face for block after block.

Fuck that place , the traffic was 11 on the suck scale. Electric trolly buses?

found an answer on another forum , looks like they do it because they don't give a fuck lol

From the other forum:

It's not legal. In Philadelphia there is the law, then there's 'the way we do things here'. The latter usually trumps the former. That's especially so in South Philly.

The last police captain who told his officers to ticket people parking in the median was reassigned the following week. You don't eff with the parking supply in South Philly.

Personally, I can't stand it. We could have a planted median. We could have bike lanes. But no, it's basically a linear parking lot for people who rarely use their cars.
