I took a four day course last year that the National Guard payed for, which included offensive driving, VIP protection, pepper spray and baton certification, defensive tactics, and vehicle tactics. Lots of fun stuff, and without spending a penny. I finally found these pics on an old CD so I thought I'd post them for your enjoyment and scalding criticism.
I'm not in this picture, but this was the best action shot of the day so I thought I'd include it as well.
I'm in the foreground in this one, having just exited the vehicle during a simulated roadblock/ambush which we are unable to drive through. Fire a couple rounds out the windshield then get behind the vehicle and return fire through the glass, using the engine block ahead of you as cover.
In this one I'm driving the Suburban through a simulated roadblock, using good old Detroit steel to bash the blocking vehicle out of the way. Hit the rear wheelwell head on to push the lighter portion of the vehicle out of the way. I hit it at approximately 30 mph, tapping the breaks in the last five yards to lower the front bumper, then hitting the gas at the moment of impact to raise the bumper and push the vehicle, like a dozer blade. Note the shredded front tire on the Suburban, because the guy who rammed the Escort before me was too busy whooping it up to see he was driving straight into a drainage ditch at 25mph.
I'm not sure what the American flag image on the front bumper of the Suburban is, but I assure you we did not have an American flag tied to the vehicle or any such nonsense.
We ended up crashing the Suburban six times that day, and it still was running strong, with only busted headlights and grille to show for it. The next day the owner brought two new tires and drove it forty miles home. They don't build 'em like that any more.
ETA: The training was conducted through Russ Adler & Associates at
Dedicated Professionals. Good instructors, and great training. I've taken about five classes total from Russ and his crew, and have learned a lot along the way.
