What current USGI longarm would you carry in a Blackhawk Down style mission?

I would carry the M-14, a nice balance of power and weight.

But I would try to keep a guy with an M203 near me.

My vote is for M-16 with M203.

How about an M4 with an M203?

Tac, I had the same idea as you, plenty of firepower in a short package for CQC.

FAL.  I like an AR, but I'd want something with more punch to handle the drug-crazed maniacs.z

Take the Standard Nato Ball M855, without the green tip shit.  Although I would load a couple of magazines with Black Tip, just in case.

Standard M855 IS green-tip.  It's not AP, the green just lets the shooter tell the difference between M855 and M193.  Hell, if you have that much choice, get the TAP or other similar loads.

I still can't get this straight.

Some board has it that M855 Green Tip is a Tungsten-Carbide penetrator at least in its current form. What happened to M855 Standard Ball FMJBT that is frangible?????

What the hell am I missing, because I know that if what happened in somalia is true then their would be no way that I would carry a penetrator into combat for skinny personnel???  That defeats the whole purpose.  Please don't tell me that they have issued this newer round and although it doesn't kill effectively our guys are still stuck with it because of the environmental concerns.  Please don't tell me that is true, that the GREEN PEACNICKS ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO KILL AMERICAN SOLDIERS THROUGH THE BEARUCRATS STIPULATIONS FOR A LESS ENVIRONMENTALLY TOXIC ROUND????

Some people here have said it better, but here goes:
M855 is the greentip, which is loaded with the 62gr SS109 projectile.  While it has a steel penetrator, it is not AP.  The black tip is the real AP, in addition to the newer M885 AP round.

Anyways I would carry a .45 Auto (a reliable one) A M4/203 and a knife.  Along with a good Optic say a ACOG or Aimpoint. And the nighvision stuff. Plenty of M203 gernades and some regular Fragmentation Gernades as well. I would definately have my body armor on.  And if I was sent directly into an assault I would have a Assault back of some sort to carry stuff.  Helmet.  And for the relief convoy

M2 Bradleys, M1A2 Abrahms MBTs. Say 1 Tank in front 1 tank in the rear and one in the middle , everything else would be Bradleys. I would have Apache gunships and A-10 WarHogs. The Apaches can take out the barracades and the guys who get in real close and the A-10 Warthogs would take out those farther back say 200 Meters or more away.  The M1's could clear a path through houses and anything else a straight line from the base to the positions if they need to.

Oh yeah I would equipt the group with about 10 claymores. And a couple of satchel charges

If i could be issued: M60E3, Kbar, Wilson Combat 1911, Claymores, Fragmentation Grenades (lots), NVD, Helmet, Body Armor, and LOTS OF AMMO.

If i had to buy the stuff, all i could afford would be a KBar and a 3D Cell Maglite and my FN FAL L1A1.

Titan 3 ICBM,  with 1000 megaton warhead.

But as far as a gun goes, M-14, but i'd want at least 2 guys with m-4's and one guy with a 60 in my team too.

I was assigned an M-60 for 2/3's of the time I was in, that's in addistion to an M-16. I was also assigned a 90mm recoiless rifle.

They were just getting M-249's as I was getting out.

In a city environment an M-249 would probably do just about everything an M-60 would. Except it would be lighter, recoil less, and you would have more 5.56 rounds per the pound whne compared to 7.62 rounds.

I would also "make friends" with an M-203 grenadier, so if I couldn't get'em with direct fire he could lob one in.........
