I was selling my Elcan Specter DR on ebay and the first bidder was a guy in Hong Kong - cancelled his bid. Winning bidder had a very Chinese name, so I googled the address and it turns out that its a Chinese exporter whose company goals are "to connect buyer and supplier with good quality, price and service. We are here to source out the best supplier and connect you with the right products at the right price, with our rich network of factories in the Asia market, we can help to cut down the inefficient time and risks from searching for factories on your own. "

Sounds to me that its fucking chicoms trying to buy and export my ITAR restricted optic. After seeing his other winning bids (like 10 ACOGs and different EOTechs) I'm thinking no fucking way am I sending my scope to this guy. How do I tell ebay this without getting slammed with selling fees?

Get his money, buy a cheap Chinese knockoff and then ship that to him.

Also send him a pic of your middle finger.

Because I saw people selling them for a whole lot more on ebay - I was seeing them go for $2700-$2900 - probably were all being bought by the Chinese to reverse engineer.
Link Posted: 4/6/2011 1:59:46 PM EDT
There are lots of drop-ship buyers on the west coast that buy on EBay (usually a CA address) then send the stuff to the Orient.

Get some cd cases and cut the lenses out of the jewel case, a shit paper roll tube, spray paint... THERE ya go send that to him along with report for the ITAR violation and FBI tip off.  Keep money= profit.

Why are you worried about it? It's not your problem if he's doing something illegal. He bid on the item, he should be allowed to pay for it and buy it. Your auction is a binding contract. If you didn't want someone buying it to reverse engineer it, you should have specified in the auction.

How would you like it if someone refused to sell you an item you legitimately bid on because they didn't like what the end use was going to be?

Cant the Chicoms just order the Elcan from Canada ?

Link Posted: 4/6/2011 2:13:01 PM EDT
Someone please explain to me why the chicoms wouldn't just have one shipped to an address in the states, directly from, say, Botach or SWFA?  Then ship it to China in a brown box?

Why all the ebay shennanigans?

Make sure to fill it first with nitrogen and coat the outside of it with Bertrillium-Zantitium.

I've often wondered how many supposed "ITAR Restricted" items are actually on the USML.  It seems like a way for vendors to try to keep their expensive products out of the hands of Chinese counterfeiters.  I once saw an LED conversion head for a Surefire light that said it was ITAR restricted, which baffled me.

Plus the 101 stupid questions and low-ball offers.  EE is fast becoming the CL of the gun world in that regard. I do much better elsewhere.

I did list that the item was itar restricted and that I would not ship out of the US - and I'm not going to sell to someone who is going to break the law.

I guess we should start selling our shit to Al Qaeda, too, if they've got the cash for it. I mean, why shouldn't we if they have the money and want to buy it?

More or less as a soldier I don't want to be responsible for providing an outlet for other countries to get a hold of equipment our country has deemed illegal to export. Maybe I'm thinking too into this and should just sell the guy the optic, I mean Raiden Group Inc with their mission statement of "At Raiden Group, our sole purpose is to connect buyer and supplier with good quality, price and service. We are here to source out the best supplier and connect you with the right products at the right price, with our rich network of factories in the Asia market, we can help to cut down the inefficient time and risks from searching for factories on your own." sounds like a legit buyer for restricted military equipment.

FBI tip reported, doubt they will do anything, but these guys were buying up a lot of restricted hardware like generation III autogated PVS-14 night vision goggles, different models of ACOGs, and a bunch of Oakleys (which aren't regulated, maybe they just like to look cool).

With that description it sounds like he imports items from China.

He may just want it for personal use.

Email and let him know that the item is restricted for export, just to verify his intentions.

Bullshit.
Do you seriously believe what you just wrote?

It is plainly obvious what the ebay buyer does. He buys US/Canadian technology, ships it to his associates factories outside of the US and then imports knock off US/Canadian technology.

I started researching the guy after my other bidders were all from Hong Kong. The address didn't have a name, it had a company name, which I looked up and found that they import/export stuff to Asia. I e-mailed him with no response, but after seeing the kinds of equipment he was buying (ie stuff that gives our forces an edge over our enemy that is VERY restricted for sale) I did what people here said to do and filed a tip with the FBI. As a soldier I'm going to be damned if I'm going to supply a potential enemy (honestly a war with China is probably the only one that really terrifies me) with technology they might reverse engineer and use against me someday.

To make a copy, you only need ONE original.

If he's buying dozens or hundreds of originals, what does that tell you?

Your choice. I don't see reflex sights being purchased on eBay and reverse engineered for the purposes of killing Americans.

I wouldn't have researched the guy but given what info you have obtained, it would be reasonable to not ship the item.
