In 1970, the great liberal economist John Kenneth Galbraith declared that the “Democratic Party must henceforth use the word ‘socialism.’ It describes what is needed.” Like many others, however, Galbraith largely dropped the subject in subsequent years. The response to Bernie Sanders’s insurgent presidential campaign, along with polls showing that large numbers of young people and minorities in America have a positive view of socialism, suggest that this once-forbidden concept may no longer be taboo.

More than 40 percent of Americans under the age of 30 view socialism favorably, according to the most recent YouGov poll. Positive responses among black Americans have ranged between 29 and 41 percent in recent surveys. A 2011 Pew Research Center poll that omitted the “undecided” option found that 49 percent of its young participants viewed socialism favorably.

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States, and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. DSA's members are building progressive movements for social change while establishing an openly democratic socialist presence in American communities and politics.

Socialism is government owning the means of production while private property still exists (as opposed to communism where there is only state property).

What most people mean when they say "socialism" is "welfare state."

I don't think many people know how big the socialist movement is in the United States of America.

I expect their movement to create all kinds of shit across this country for the next four years trying to derail Trump's Administration and agenda.  just look at all the destruction that they did on the west coast after Trump is elected. They were desperate to try stop and Trump every way that they could possibly do and they were defeated. They'll be back!

Actually Socialism/Communism are the next to last stage before Technocracy. Which is the desired form of government by the Elites. Essentially an attempted repeat of the 1930s version of the Technocracy Movement but with technology as the tool for insured success.
Here is the PDF of it for reading. I don't see Trump doing much to stop it.

Today's democrats are socialists.

Everyone who voted for Hillary is a socialist, who had the most votes, so there are more socialists in this country than not

Yep.  We've been a mixed economy since the New Deal.  http://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/mixed-economic-system.asp

What is a 'Mixed Economic System'

A mixed economic system is an economic system that features characteristics of both capitalism and socialism. A mixed economic system protects private property and allows a level of economic freedom in the use of capital, but also allows for governments to interfere in economic activities in order to achieve social aims. According to neoclassical theory, mixed economies are less efficient than pure free markets, but proponents of government interventions argue that the base conditions such as equal information and rational market participants cannot be achieved in practical application.

Most modern economies feature a synthesis of two or more economic systems, with economies falling at some point along a continuum. The public sector works alongside the private sector, but may compete for the same limited resources. Mixed economic systems do not block the private sector from profit-seeking, but do monitor profit levels and may nationalize companies that are deemed impediments to the public good. The United States is mostly a free market economy, but it incorporates elements such as protection for agriculture and manufacturing by through trade restrictions and subsidies. This makes the United States a mixed economy by definition.
