Whats different about it, and does it transfer over addons and bookmarks?

I didn't lose any info or settings. Just a newer interface. Looks more like Google Chrome now. Tabs are on top of the toolbars.

the one thing I didn't like about it is they got rid of the status bar at the bottom.
Thankfully, there's an addon that reproduces about 95% of the functionality. This may have changed in recent updates, I don't have it installed on my laptop, still using the older version on here. |

Aniweather is the bomb but this update has killed my page scroll feature.

Does it still leak memory like a New Orleans levee? Dunno. How do I tell? |

Quoted: Quoted: Does it still leak memory like a New Orleans levee? Dunno. How do I tell? ctrl alt del Click the processes tab That will show what apps are using memory. You can also use an app like Freeram which will show available memory and whether it's going down. I'm not seeing any memory leak issues with FF 4.0 |
|
I might give it a shot then because I have to restart FF 3.x about every other day before it slows to a crawl.

I used the beta for a while and liked it, but some of my add-ons were not compatible, so I ditched it.

I lost these extensions: Linkification and Hide Google Options.

After all of the memory leaks/"features", I gave up on firefox a while ago. Frankly, IE is more stable.

I'm using it but I'm not a big fan of the fact that they moved / reduced in size the forward, back, stop reload buttons.

Incessant questions about do I want Adobe or Java to make changes. This is in 2 machines, so it isn't something I have managed to bugger up. |

Does the Tree Style Tab plugin work?
Or most other 3.x plugins? I like my tabs down the left side of the screen, since I have a lot of width to spare, relative to the height. Most everybody does that has a widescreen display. |

So far it has grown from an initial 270 mb real memory to 394 mb real memory in a couple of hours. I've mostly been surfing arfcom. No streaming video or any of the other usual culprits. I'll let it go until tomorrow and then report back where it is. My guess is it still leaks pretty badly.

Guess it's getting installed tonight. |

I use Freeram XP that auto frees my ram on a regular interval. |

I lost these extensions: Linkification and Hide Google Options. Linkification has been updated. Linkification FastestFox has NOT been updated yet. ScreenGrab either. Fireshot makes an acceptable alternative until that happens for most sites that disable right click. |

Anyone know if Ad Block Plus and NoScript work on 4.0? If not, I'll pass.

Quoted: New tab and new window are reversed on the right click. You get used to it pretty quick. But yeah, RC1 is still a tad bit buggy and a minor resource hog. I hope they can get some better performance out of it before it goes gold. And of course the usual PITA with various extensions not working with the beta(which usually continues once it goes final, at least for a couple of months until all the devs can check compatibility and change the code to say it works with the new version). Quoted: Anyone know if Ad Block Plus and NoScript work on 4.0? If not, I'll pass. I'm running 4.0RC1 and have ABP on my Mac and NoScript on the PC, so I'd say yes they both seem to be working fine. |

Decided to try it out, not too bad. Ad Block Plus and NoScript are working fine from what I can see.
One thing I did not like was the removal of the bottom status bar, but that was fixed by getting the "status-4-evar" add-on mentioned above. Eta: Differences/issues so far; -Status bar was removed, kinda stupid that they removed this if you ask me. -Page tabs are now above the URL and Bookmark bars, different but acceptable. -Addons now open in a new tab/page and you must click "extensions" on that page to see what you have installed, the old popup window was better IMHO. -INcompatible addons/extensions so far; some sort of URL adviser that came with an app i used called Hotspot Shield, Chatzilla, and .net framework assistant. No biggie, didn't use any of these anyways. -Minor visual differences. -NoScript and ABP buttons were both placed in the tool/url bar. By right-clicking any bar and choosing "customize", I was able to simply drag and drop them both from their positions to the right end of the status-4-evar bar where I had them before. -The new loading progress bar only appears when a page is loading, along the bottom-length of the URL bar as a green line. I never noticed a memory leak before this, so I can't really comment on that. FF always ran well for me, so I also can't comment on performance differences. Looks to be utilizing the same amount of RAM as before. |

they made it similar to chrome. i have been a firefox fanboy since the beginning, but on a whim i decided to try google chrome and its the cats meow.

I tried it and still have it installed, but never use it because I couldn't use ABP and NoScript. The author of the latter add-on at some point said he was working on a Chrome-compatible version, but I'm not sure what came of that as I haven't really looked in to it over the last 6+ months. |

Does it still leak memory like a New Orleans levee? this was fixed years ago... Not so much - at least on the Mac. 3.(latest minor) still leaks significantly. Or, maybe I should say, it started leaking significantly again a couple of releases back. 4.0 RC got up to 400 mb real memory and stayed stable overnight. 3.x would have continued to climb. I will have to keep 3.x around for firebug because that is a must have for me, but so far it is ok. I wish the refresh button was more conveniently place or larger. |
