I went and saw American Sniper at the theater last night, I liked it. Granted I don't nit pick every detail about movies. Before that the last war movie I liked was We Were Soldiers, before that one Black Hawk Down.

I like them all. The arfcom movie critics are retarded and nitpick everything to death. I ignore the critical movie threads. Blackhawk down was the last great one I saw.

Not sure if it can be classified as a traditional war movie but ZERO DARK THIRTY was a great movie.
What made it better was the fact that I had watched the CIA documentary before seeing the movie as that gave you a real understanding of who the characters really were. |

I know Band of Brothers isn't a movie, but it is the leading candidate by which all others should be measured. SPR is a very close second though.
ETA: Although casting "Ross" as Captain Sobel was a fucking epic fail IMO. |

Yes, some folks are very critical of movies that follow books. I think more so then just a stand alone movie. I don't personally expect a movie to follow a book exactly. As long as it stays true to the big points I think a little freedom to make it "work" on film is allowed. Not saying they just a free pass to completely change stuff vital to the story. |
