The message was directed at a woman who posted a response containing profanity to a post regarding a recent arrest. The woman told 13WHAM she was responding in defense of a family member.

The Dansville Police Department responded with the following:

"Dear Ashley, we know that your Obama phone does not have spell check or grammar check, but please do us all a favor that has to read your non sense posts. Get someone educated enough to spell check your posts before you post them please! Sincerely, the not so scary police. "

Later followup story update:

"According to Mayor Peter Vogt, he will establish new guidelines and oversight as to how the department will use its page. Vogt said the changes would be presented to the town’s board of trustees and department heads. Once the policies are put in place, the department will be allowed to use its Facebook page again. The mayor said an investigation into the incident is ongoing"
