i almost thought i was reading from the onion. if the thinking weren't so flawed, it might actually be amusing. that is just sad. is his solution to the abundance of already illegal guns in california and new york really "lockers"?? i had to read it a few times and am simply stunned.
ps. are their really gang shoot outs with automatic weapons in compton? and what is up with the bazooka comment? i didn't know i could even get one. |

I just read the article three more times, just to try and find out what I was missing. Exactly what I am missing, and continue to miss, because it isn't even there, is any attention paid to the idea that criminals commit crimes with guns, and not law abiding citizens.
They are making it too easy. If I didn't know that these people aren't known for their depth of thought, I would be suspicious. But, it is just par for the course. |

Since the Dems don't appear to be taking a clue from history, and are going to drill more on the concept of "military style" assault weapons, would somebody make a webpage displaying and explaining the types of firearms that have historically been in the military inventories? I would do it myself, but my slow posterior doesn't seem to be very swift, even with several HTML tutorials (because they all say something different). They should get some larnin this time around, about the Springfields, M1911s, M92s and the .38 revolvers, not to mention shotguns. They better broaden their focus if they want to prohibit military style weapons. |

DoubleFeed - let's not give these morons any ideas. It might be worthy to note that the short-barreled shotgun ban was upheld by a few important factors... 1) The lawyer for the United States was a WWI veteran - who lied about the weapons used. 2) Emerson was not effectively notified of the US appeal in circuit court - and therefore was neither present nor represented by counsel. 3) The common use of the short-barreled shotgun (or "trench gun" for its most common use) in military engagements was "outside of judicial notice" and was therefore not considered at appeal. Therefore, the SBS was not considered a common militia firearm. Short form - a liar and a know-nothing managed to uphold one of the longest-running and most blatantly repugnant firearms bans running in modern jurisprudence. I think the case went thru in 1936, as Emerson v. United States. Check it out, I know there's information online. FFZ |

Emerson is the recent case that the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the 2nd protects an individual right. Miller is the 1930's case about the sawed off shotgun... FFZ, we don't have to give them anything. They already have whatever they want. Go and read some anti-gun webpages. They have Miller and Emerson on there. If we take the tack of not giving them anything, we will lose, because they will be using tools that we refuse to use.
Go back and read Miller. The court said it was "outside judicial notice" because nobody TOLD them about trench guns! Miller didn't show up, for what reason I forgot. Then they remanded it back to the lower court. The lesson I take from that is if the weapon can be proven to have a viable military usage, it is protected by the 2nd. Their "public safety" argument will not have much to stand on, if we take them to the wall on militia weapons. We (the pro-gun people) have been scared to do that, because of the propensity of most people to view this subject in a blindly emotional mindset. |

Why is it that the DEMS seem to think that the way to make America a better place is by pitting one group of people against another. It may not seem like they are playing class warfare on the surface, but think about it. Different groups operate under different levels of the law, with given privilages and punishments as they seem fit to dispense. This naturally leads to discontent and dischord. I think that this strategy is only leads to one end-an America that is worse off. [/rant] |

"Safer Society"......What a wonderful thought. I think all the people who share this point of view should join together and put a sign, proudly displayed, on their front lawn. The sign should read " Safer Society! Another proud gun free home". After these folks are robbed 3 or 4 times then maybe they will reconsider their point of view. Also if you are a criminal which house will you pick? The house with a sign like this or the house without a sign. This will make you and I much safer at their expense and thats cool!

Hey, I got an idea: We should set up a Democrap rating system. 1-10 ratings on categories like (higher scores for worthless nonsense):
Ignoring critical points (like self-defense) 10 - need I say more? Misinterpreting the constitution 8 - "guns were okay under some circumstances". Yeah, that's why it says "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" Total lack of facts, or facts whose "proof" would make Bill Clinton cringe 10 - author doesn't even try to include any actual facts promotion of socialism 0 - not much of that here, maybe indirectly Rampant, undirected speculation with no point 2 - well, it does have a point, even if it's a pretty dumb one |

Instead of outright gun prohibition and "gun control", they now advocate to allow "2nd amendment hunting rights", ala Al Gore, for farmers and rural citizens (which means single-shit rifles and shotguns), while banning of actually useful guns for everyone else. Oh, and they push for "gun safety" legislation (no self-defense). I didn't go the the DU forums posted, because its morning and I'm cranky already. But I think I got the gist of the subject there. |
