Why am I not rounding up the people at these rallies, checking for status,  and sending the illegals home?  There's no current amensty or even a bill passed with future date right now, and there seems to be a concentration of illegal aliens at these things, all around the country.

Is it not their duty to uphold the current law until a new one is passed?  If this was a bunch of pot smokers, toking it up in public as a protest I would assume the police would be doing THEIR jobs.

Just a thought I had as I am amazed at the brazen public appearences of people illegally within our borders.

INS doesn't exist anymore. They are now split in two agencies. ICE does the deportation business.

ICE, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
CIS, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

That's because they are using their union mandated and 'gubment approved sick days.

We should hire Blackwater mercenaries or civilian bounty hunters to handle tracking down and eliminating illegals. I bet they could do the job faster and cheaper. It'll be another growth industry!

Just another job Americans won't do. So, lets hire some illegals to do it.

I'm pretty sure they don't want riots and dead Federal officials on their hands, because that is exactly what would happen.

Good one.  Just go up to people and say, "Jawohl, papers, please".  Arfcom would go nuts.

"This JBT came up to me and said, 'show me your papers'.  I told him he didn't have probably cause to ask."

"Sue him!"

"Lawyer up!"

"But is your dog OK?"

I think the government should put bounties on the heads of illegals and let the private sector take care of it.  In some cases private firms might hire illegals to detain and deport other illegals.

True Story.
The town that I used to work in is slowly turning into North Chihuahua, with a very large influx of Central American culture.
I had to go to the Post Office to mail a package after work.
I walk in and there is a line of about 12-14 citizens of "questionable" origins.
So, I get in line and wait.
Shortly afterwards, an older gentleman gets in line behind me.
After about 2-3 minutes of standing there listening to the clerk trying to communicate with one of the citizens of "questionable" origins in both English and Spanish, I hear the guy behind me let out a huge sigh.
I look behind and I say to him "What's the matter? Haven't you ever felt like a foreigner in your own country?"
He laughs and says that there is alot of truth to that.
I then say "Where is the INS when you need them?"
And with that statement, all actions and talking ceases and all eyes are now on me and the older gentleman.
They look at us and we look at them and then they start talking among themselves.
Sortly after that, the croud begins to leave in small groups.
It took about 1 minute for the line to disappear totally.
I get up to the clerk and she asks us what we said.
We tell her and she begins to laugh.
She then tells us that they were thinking that there was going to be an INS raid here and they were heading for the hills.
The older gentleman, the clerk and I laughed till we cried.

Actually, INS was split into 3 agencies...

CIS: Mostly clerical, handling naturalizations, LPR's, asylee claims, refugee claims, etc.

CBP: Officers and Border Patrol Agents, Ports of Entry and gaps in between, respectively.  Also covers the Air and Marine units.

ICE: Criminal Investigators, Deportee Officers, Enforcement Agents.  These are the guys that break down doors and whatnot.  Remember, they handle not only Immigrant matters, but also anything importable (ie, Customs matters), they're also big into investigating child porn cases.

Now remember, if you say you wanna see them doing their job, then don't blame the individual officers.  CBP Officers and Border Patrol Agents really really wanna do what they're suppose to.  By this, I mean send people back to Mexico or Canada.  If you want a finger to point, please blame upper management and the politicians.  They come up with the shittiest regulations on how we do our job.  Years ago, if we didn't want someone to come into the country, we'd say, you're not coming in, turn them around, and send them packing.  Process took maybe 1 minute.  Now I have to do 2 hours of paperwork plus to kick someone out.    Mind you, I still enjoy doing it.  I could just do a lot more of it if I didn't have to do the damn paperwork.

To put this in perspective.  I live in Western NY.  There is a heavy hispanic population of migrant workers.  When coming home from work, its probably a good idea to keep the gun on when you go to the bank, especially on fridays.  I get way to many stares when I walk in with my uniform on.

i think there's plenty of probable cause for checking paperwork.  they're rallying for illegal "rights", so i'd be willing to bet a lot of them are illegals.  round them up and check them out

Last I heard, American citizens--even those who looked Hispanic--were able to attend political rallies without having to show their papers.  I don't enforce immigration laws and I'm no fan of illegal immigrants.  But demanding to see papers at a political event smacks of a real police state.
