It is so slow!!!

I can right click on mozilla for instance and I get the hourglass thingy.

It then takes about 2 minutes to open up.

Same goes for any other program I open.

What's wrong with it?

It is 4 years old.

Maybe you have too many programs running in the background.... and too much porn.

Buy more RAM.

4 years old?

Yeah, you've waited long enough.  Go ahead, get a new machine and upgrade.

I have a five year old 1ghz PIII computer with 256 megs of ram running XP Pro that works just fine, opens Firefox from a dead cold start in about four seconds.

Either your computer is spyware laden or it's having serious problems.

So how old was it when you bought it 4 years ago. I am running a first gen intel p4 system made by aopen with an 800 mhz board.. When I built it they weren't even making the processors for it yet.. I have since upgraded the processor to 3.2ghz and it runs like a champ...It is 4 years old at least.

Do you have a link to an online translator for that?  I can only find English, French, Japanese, etc.

Just joking...

You probably don't need a new computer; there's stuff running that's slowing it down.
Probably stuff you don't really need running.

After your computer boots, the only things that you need to be running (starting automatically) are hardware drivers--motherboard, video and sound as well as any other HARDWARE you have, and security programs: firewall, antivirus and antispyware.

If your computer only goes slow when connected online, then you might install a firewall that does outbound monitoring (like ZoneAlarm) so you can see if anything is repeatedly using the network without you telling it to. (There is a common problem with the settings of Windows Messenger defaulting to "scan network for friends when idle", and this slows down a lof of people's PC's) Security programs will update once when you reboot, but they should stay silent the rest of the time.

About the only reason one -needs- a fast computer is to play current 3-D action games.

I need a computer that can keep up with me, and all my plinking between shopping, and here and there...

I have a very short frustration thresh hold.
