New Leupold Thermal Spotting scope under 1k

Saw this the other day. Any way this could be paired onto a rifle to use as a cheap thermal scope.  Or would recoil kill it?

Duct tape, you can do anything with duct tape.

Putting aside recoil, it has no reticle so it can't be used as the only optic
The only way it might work is to mount it like  like a magnifier behind a red dot scope

I bet if it could handle recoil, Leupold would sell it as a scope.

In fact, I bet that is what they initially set out to do when they designed it.

I'll also point out that it doesn't have a reticle.

Except you can't see through glass with thermal.

Yeah it would have to be mounted in front of the scope and that would require a special mount to maintain zero. It looks like it could be modified to be helmet mounted.

"The LTO-Tracker has 6 optional thermal palettes and a user controlled reticle for quick acquisition of the target."

Yea I read it had a cross hair.  Looks almost like the rear bell housing was used from a leupold rifleman scope.  Wonder if it would screw on

I wonder if mounted with a red dot or front sight if you could adjust zero

Some good discussion on it here.

Thermals can't see through glass. And it won't see a red dot reticle either, so no it won't work in any way shape or form.

206x156 resolution sucks

That's pretty cool OP! I could see me using that for scouting and hunting. Would be really cool for night walks in the woods too.

Wouldn't that kind of money be better spent on a thermal scope though? Do they make them and how much? Totally ignorant here.

Too low resolution for navigation, pvs14 for walking through woods.  Thermal will let u walk into a ditch or tree limbs.

600 bucks at optics planet and midway USA.  I dont know anything about thermals other than what we have in the fire dept which are a different animal.  I have hopes for a 500 buck thermal in the future

I looked at those, but I bought an ATN X sight II instead. I know it isn't thermal, but it is good enough for night and day hunting out to 200+ yards with a Streamlight illuminator. Don't have a lot of trigger time with it yet, but for an inexpensive dedicated rifle sight, it is pretty awesome so far.

I think i saw the Flir scout in the $500 range.
You are not going to find thermal that is usable for a gun sight at that price range. <img src=http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

That being said my Thor 336 is used more off the gun than on it, so i am interested in a hand held and that one you linked to looks good .

I don't think this is accurate. I have plenty of time behind 160 class cores and while not "great" you can navigate with them. Yeah, you might hit a branch here or there due to the shitty FOV but that is pretty common with most low end thermals.

To the OP, probably what this is good for is detecting bigger game in the open to a few hundred yards at night.
