[ARCHIVED THREAD] - So, who knows about Army equipment?

More specifically, this whistle? I got it in a trade, but have no idea about it. You thoughts would be appreciated!

The "US Army Regulation" marking doesn't mean it was ever a piece of military equipment. Just that it met the Army standard for whistles (when manufactured).

Since at least the 1960s the Army has been using plastic whistles which will be marked with US, a maker's code, and a date. The only time I was ever issued a metal whistle was 1986 in Germany, and the whistle was smaller, chromed, and not marked as Army regulation.

Your mileage may vary.

It appears to be a pre-ban whistle. I'd also have to say its illegal in California. Looks good, add it to your Bug Out Bag

It was attached to a 1911 lanyard when I got it. They lanyard was issue, and some fellow gave me $150 for that, so I'm guessing the whistle might have possibilites of being issued. So far, you guys are lots of help
