I do.  I work for a company based in the UK and somewhere down the line (before I started there 5 years ago) someone lazy American convinced them Columbus Day was a major holiday over here.  I when I heard that  I snickered to myself and said, 'that's cool."  I think I'll go to enslave a few Native Americans tomorrow in commemoration.

I hit the range Saturday.  Unfortunately, my day tomorrow is already booked with patching drywall and priming/painting the master bathroom.

I'm so domestic...

You and I do the same thing, SNM.  I got tired of the travel and left the Gold partner I'd spent 5+ years with.  Now I've got 34 CCM/ICM/IPCC servers I call my own, and I work as close to an 8 to 5 schedule as I've ever seen in the IT industry.  Did I mention that work is only 3.5 miles from home and I sleep in my own bed every night?

Life is good...

Department of Defense civilian.
Funny thing is, as a kid, I always remember my dad getting the day off and he'd snicker as my brother and I would have to head off to school. (he was a DoD civilian, just retired on 30Sept with something like 38 years of service)

Dont you get like double time for working on a holiday? I always take the comp time instead of the money, since I just started last year and I get barely any vacation, so I'm not up on the multipliers.

I do, but that's because my hours have been cut.  From this week til the end of the school semester I'm going to be working about 10 hours a week instead of thirty.  Payday's gonna suck.

+1

Actually it is my day off due to how my shift is split with half our crew working Sun-Thurs and the other half Tues-Sat.   We maintain the network for our MAJCOM, so its a 24/7 operation.

I actually get paid holiday pay for this since the other half of my crew works the holiday.  Hmm, I think there are some C&R goodies I can get with the extra cash.

I don't (seeing as my plant is in Mexico), but I'm taking it anyway.

Fuck 'em. I use these weekends to see my kids since they don't have school. If that gets me fired, I'll just land a better job.

34 servers? No roggers? Are the ICM routers and loggers on separate servers, or something?

I only travel about a 1/4 of the time. Most times, I work out of my house. I haven't seen my office in like 2 months. I don't even have a desk there, come to think of it. For the most part, I'm only on site for a few days for admin and end user training, cutover, and day 1 support. Customers typically rack the gear and place phones. I usually mandate VPN connectivity, and write the IP-IVR/ICD workflows at home. Design docs and final deliverables are written in my undies at my home office.

DOD contractor here too, but my company doesn't give tomorrow as a holiday.  Oh well, I'll just be at work without most of the customer base.  Fine with me, maybe I'll get some work done!

Let's see:

5 CallManagers
2 Unitys
2 Roggers
2 AWs
8 PGs
2 CTIOS
2 SDDSNs
4 ISNs
7 IVRs (includes speech recognition)

Those are all production servers (we run a split cluster).
