So . . . will the Catholics riot and burn the US embassy in Rome and kill our Ambassador?

Check out the story:

http://www.campusreform.org/blog/?ID=4503

An atheist group at Dartmouth College (in New Hampshire) is planning an event aimed at disparaging the late Mother Teresa.

The group plans a full-out romp against Mother Teresa, calling her ‘a lying, thieving Albanian dwarf.’

They even plan to screen an anti-Mother Teresa film!!!

Does that sound familiar?

PS: I did search; but if this is a dupe, someone will be sure to let me know.

Not all, but a great many atheists only pick on religious groups they know won't behead them.

I predict the Obama administration will laud this effort as "the beauty of free speech" and that while they "may" not agree with its content they support the right of people to speak openly about religion.

You know, all the same stuff they said about that anti-Muslim film that "sparked" a bunch of riots in the middle east.

Not surprised.

Hanover, NH, aka. Cambridge on the Connecticut (River) is probably the second most liberal town in NH (after Portsmouth).

Actually the Romans were very religious. One of their reasons for persecuting Christians was that they only believed in one God and denied all of their gods. That was sacrilegious to them.

Best thing to do for the atheists is to ignore them.

During one of the incursions of Israel into Lebanon there was a hospital that served special needs children. I was in the no man's land between the Israeli and PLO forces. Most of the staff ad fled leaving only a few very brave souls to tend to the needs of the children the best they could. Mother Theresa showed up and talked to the Israeli commander and told him tat she and her nuns were going to go to the hospital the next day at 9:00 and get the children and staff out.

The Israeli commander told her that there was too much fighting going on for her to do that. She replied that the fighting was of little consequence to her and her nuns. What was important was those children. At 9:00 she and her nuns proceeded into the no mans land to get the people out of the hospital. They got them all out and nobody was hurt. In fact both sides stopped firing as the nuns took a leap of faith and stepped forward from the Israeli lines. I would like to see those atheists go out and do a similar thing in Gaza right now.

Impressive story. Honestly, many of the NGO and religious charity folks do stuff like this, and it never gets reported. I had a foreign diplomat once tell me, "The only idealists left in the world are the military and NGO people."

The best way to get people to see your point of view is to take the most offensive position possible.

Actually they denied the Caesar. They didn't care who you worshipped as long as you also worshipped caesar. They had a special place to worship him.

Interesting coincidence: yelling "Jesus is Lord" while firing on tannerite yields no results as my buddy drops rounds all around it. ALLAH-U-AKBAR on the other hand was promptly followed by an explosion. I'm an irreverent asshole towards all faiths, especially my own!

That said, my irreverence is talking about how awesome an idea it would be to start a potentially riotous protest over this, notwithstanding I haven't been to mass since Christmas, 2010.

I met Mother Theresa when I was 11yo. It's one of the things I'm most proud of. I met Pope John Paul II three years later, but Mother Theresa is the one who struck me as just radiating goodness. She really is a Saint.

What a bunch of Godless hippies think won't change that. If you want to be an atheist, whatever, but don't denigrate a person like her. Personally, if the opportunity presented itself, I'd be more than happy to grab and destroy any of their nasty posters or literature in front of them, but she'd probably not agree with that. One more reason, in addition to many, that I'll never be sainted.

But organizing riots and killing people and such? Those things are best left to the RoP©

I don't know why anyone would give a fuck what college students think.

Perhaps, after they have contributed something to the world, someone might listen to and consider their opinions.

Until then ...........

I think "non-believers" tend to save their hate for the religions they were raised in. Those kids were probably raised Catholic, or some other Christian sect. Just like Salman Rushdie and Ayaan Hirsi Ali are critical of Islam.

Someone here in another thread called these kinds of people Antithiests. They aren't the typical Athiest, the one who just goes on through life, these are the ones with an agenda. I think that's a pretty fair assessment.

So it's strictly coincidental, the heavy overlap between college atheists, anti-gun leftists, socialists looking for daddy gov to pay their every need, and the anti-war left?

Nope. I'll stick with "pussies" for $1000, Alex.

Inconceivable!

90% of theists we ever meet are christians, and then are shocked when 90% of the discussions we have about religion are about christianity!

I work with a bunch of muslims, and me and my co-worker got into a discussion about the anti-islam video that was supposedly related to bengazi. He said that the government should limit free speech to protect people from getting offended, especially when the person is 'spreading lies'.

I straight up told him that I completely disagreed, and that while he is free to have his belief in whatever unsubstantiated entity he wishes, but he shouldn't expect people to coddle that belief. If people find your beliefs irrational or immoral they are perfectly free to say so. It doesn't even matter if the reasoning behind their dislike for your beliefs is based on actual fact or not. If people freak out and kill people over that doesn't factor in to the right to say it.

Now, one can appeal to reason and encourage people to not to post intentionally inflammatory stuff when it puts us at risk, but that doesn't mean the government has the power to prevent it from happening.
