So, I need thoughts.

Apparently, a buddy of a buddy, just sold off 19 transferable machineguns as he's going into an old folks home.

He has 1.1 million rds he offered to the buyer, who decided(yes someone bought at 19 machineguns) he could not purchase the guns + the ammo.

So I run my happy ass over there to check it out.

He said its "battle field pick", and it sure as hell looks it. Rusted, dented, corroded, mixed headstamp(TZZ, LC, WRA etc..), it is .223 loose in 40mm army cans packed in a basement.

Guy wants $400 per 1200rds. I'm thinking he's nuts, I thought I just hit the jackpot but at that price I'm thinking

What kind of ammo is it?
Link Posted: 5/2/2009 6:37:31 AM EDT
Whoops its 223 mainly, guy had tons of m16's.

Wait, wait, you just viewed a private stash of 1.1 million rounds of ammo, and you come here and post NO pics of said stash?

We'll be waiting here when you come back with pics.

Until then, someone should report your post.

Shit I'm not letting you assholes know where da ammo's is before I get my Haul

Dude isn't gonna let me take a picture of his ammo stash, he appears to be "anti-government" if you catch my drift..

Offer him $200 per 1200.
Link Posted: 5/2/2009 6:50:36 AM EDT
Pick out 1200 good rounds and give him $400 for it. No sense in trying to run crap through your rifle.

Any chance of a group buy?

This.  No way he is going to get 400 per 1200 with ammo in that condition....

Is it corossive? Can it be reloaded? Do you get to pick through the crappy stuff?  For $0.33/round I might pass. If you could get him down to into the mid 20's a round then maybe......

Pics! post pics!

Ammunition doesn't rust. Is it on belts?

Some of the best/cheapest surplus in the last while was the Guat stuff, lots of it was corroded but it all shot well. If it was decent price, I'd buy a bunch.

Hell I don't know.

I honestly doubt he's going to let me go picking through his ammo. He just wants to sell it for a stupid profit margin.

I wouldn't reload the brass, looks like hell. Maybe I'll get 1200rds and tumble it to make it shiny.

More to the point, I am hearing a lot of moaning about ammo that no one has seen.

It COULD have been on belts at one time, but at this time its all loose in 40mm ammo cans.

I would be intereted, if I had the money

At $400 per 1200rds for what sounds like grade 3 Quat at best, Sounds like the old shister has a few miles left in him!

Get close up pix of said ammo as not to revel its location but show it's condition. Simple.

Link Posted: 5/2/2009 7:18:45 AM EDT
1.1M rounds wound be about 915 50cal ammo cans worth (if loose packed)

Guy must have a two car garage filled up with a live ammo fort.

At $400 were talking $367k - my house isnt worth that yet some guy has that much surplus stacked up in cans for his machine gun collection.
Exactly what did this guy do for a living?

1.1 Million rounds and no pics?

BAN.

well in all fairness he probably bought it for 1/3 to 1/4 what the going rate is now

I was recently informed of a "range pickup" ammo deal, $100 for 1,000 rounds.  I saw some of the rounds, some were nasty looking, but shootable, some were dented and shootable, some were just plain not going to chamber.  Mostly .223, some minor amounts of .308.   Most of this seemed to be Israeli.  I don't know if that means Israeli battlefield pickup, or just ammo used in training over here.

For $100 per 1,000 rnds, I'd take my chances.  For $400 a little under $400?  No way.

And, more importantly, why is he selling his MG's in order to go into a retirement home (Gods' waiting room)?

Link Posted: 5/2/2009 7:42:02 AM EDT
There's no way I'd pay that kind of money for crappy ammo.

Back on subject,

PICS OR BAN

Probably because he is old and that is what old people do.
Link Posted: 5/2/2009 7:46:57 AM EDT
Probably why the guy who bought the MGs passed on the ammo.

You're assuming he bought it at $400/1.2k.  More than likely it was 1/3 to 1/4 that when he bought it, if not less.
Link Posted: 5/2/2009 7:58:26 AM EDT
I'd offer him $50,000.

Well, I don't know about you, but even if he bought it for $100 per 1000, That's still the price of a nice Porsche on ammunition alone, not to mention the 19 NFA firearms that he fed the ammunition.

I know what my net worth is, and I know what the value of ammunition in my stash is way less than 1% of that net worth. Even at 1%, this guy would have to be worth $10M.

I'd be damned if I'd move into a retirement home and sell all my guns if I were old and worth $10M.

That's what I'm thinking too.

If it was "bargain basement" (literally ) prices that might be something to consider, for the cost of new xm193 it's easy to walk away from.  He probably bought a giant amount of Israeli mixed junk ammo (pretty safe bet with the headstamp mix you mentioned) for very cheap and now he's trying to cash in on it.

You might if you just lost all your net worth in the stock market, can't pay your property taxes anymore, and need someone to take care of you due to medical problems or whatever.  Lots of older folks choose to downsize their lives to simplify and economize, especially if medical issues or just age is making it so that they can't enjoy the extras anymore.  Plus, many like to take care of things while they are still here rather than rely on others to handle things after they are gone.
Link Posted: 5/2/2009 8:02:40 AM EDT
Come on now.  All 1.1 million are badly damaged?   Why would someone have that much bad ammo.  And how would it get that way.  Something does not pass the smell test.
