Specifically an Australian Milsurp

More specifically an RFSV
ETA: One of deeees

On a scale from 1 to full retard, where does this land?

I just sent an email to an Aus company that offers a full service of finding/exporting these things.

If their rates aren't to bad(say 4k) then at 14k to 17k usd for an RFSV, I could pretty much flip one of these things for a (small) profit the second it hits the US.

*Update*

Contact has been made. Confirmed that they are old enough for import to the states. Prices to be announced.

I've been talking with Justin over at Landybitz and so far, I would highly recommend them.

*Update 2 Electric Boogaloo.*

Auctions have begun. I will start bidding tomorrow.

I bought my first Rover in 1986. It was a 1967 Series IIA that I bought from an old boy in MN who used it only during deer season. It had a PTO-driven winch on the front that, according to him, "Would pull the hubcaps straight out of hell!"

It was a great rig. I hope you have similar luck.

From my understanding most of these are in "like new" condition. The aus. Mil did an overhaul on their entire fleet in an effort to extend the service life of these for another decade. This was in the mid 2000s iirc.

Just barely.

It's right at the cut off date for emissions.

Hmmm, I thought they were. I know they're being replaced by the G-Wagon 6x6's. The guy that's building my 4x4 RV now mentioned he's bringing some of the 6x6's in....he might have meant into Europe though, come to think of it.

Same.

It's basically built from the ground up as an extended off road expedition vehicle. They used these for long surveillance in theater and to patrol the coast in country.

You can pack these full of provisions to keep a 3 man team driving it for weeks on end out in the sticks.

I haven't seen any of the 6x6s in the 25 year+ range.

It would probably be a better investment then a fast car or a brodozer.

The truck I have now is camo(m1009), so I can get used to it.

OP let me get this strait- your buying what appears to be one of the best vehicles ever made and paying some shipping cost to ship it on a tanker. What documents do you need? Do states have more restrictive laws concerning emissions than the Feds? I would love one of these in AK! Heck man 5 grand for shipping is a steal if GD can get what we want. These would be like the official truck of arfcom. What about part availability? Average life etc. OP wins the best thread for the day for bringing this to our attention!

4k is an admittedly conservative estimate ,though I will for sure update that when I hear back from them.

Rules say it had to be 25 years old to be exempt from .fed emissions. I believe a few of the more liberal states (CA) would still require it to go through emissions (it would fail in spectacular fashion )

Parts are pretty plentiful, many of the parts are interchangeable with defender models. The engine and trans aren't weird enough to not find parts for.

As far as life goes, these are all basically like new after the mid 2000s overhaul. Everything from rebuilt engines to fresh paint.

I'll try and update the thread with info as I get it.

Thanks Mr_Smiley -I'v bookmarked this thread. I'm pretty sold on the idea, I would need to inquire about AK laws, but I would love to get one. So WA will let you skip the emissions test then? I know you have to get it every year when renewing the tabs.

My DD is a us milsurp K5 and had never seen emissions while I've owned it.

In WA state diesels are exempt after like 8 years.

there's two Rover shops, one off phinny ridge coming down into there, and one off leary right before the "taint" heading into Freemont. I used to see a few here and there getting worked on. of course, it was hard to see them with the PILES of other busted junk.
