Police: Good Samaritan Uses Pocket Knife To Stop Rape Attempt

GLENDALE, Calif. - A man severely beat a woman in a rape attempt in the courtyard of a Glendale church but was interrupted by a good Samaritan who stabbed him repeatedly with a pocket knife, authorities said Friday.   Video

The assault on the woman began at 10:45 p.m. Thursday at a United Methodist church near Kenwood Street and Broadway, said Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz. The assailant was attempting to rape a transient woman in the courtyard of the church when another man came to her rescue, he said. The good Samaritan stabbed the assailant with a pocket knife, sparking a running battle that took both men out of the church courtyard and through alleys and streets, ending at a 7-Eleven near Jackson Street and Broadway, a Glendale police sergeant told camera crews at the scene. During the struggle, the good Samaritan was cut with his own knife, the sergeant said.

Police went to the 7-Eleven to find the two men bleeding in the parking lot, he said. The suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital, as was the good Samaritan, Lorenz said. The woman, who was severely beaten, suffered multiple facial fractures and was also taken to a hospital, he said. The suspect will be booked on suspicion of attempted rape, Lorenz said. The incident is under investigation.

Since "authorities" refer to the good guy as "the good Samaritan," I'm going to take the above as just bad sentence structure, but it sure looks like both the BG and GG were arrested and taken to the hospital.

That's what I thought the first time I read it. It's bad sentence structure. The video quoted police as saying based on eyewitness accounts, it is "very doubtful" the good samaritan will be charged.

I didn't watch the video, but where do you get an indication that the "good Samaritan" was a transient? Or is that just the voice of experience with these altercations?
