I have been on and off the wagon for awhile now. I got tired of paying the price of a pack a day and I want to get back into running 5 and 10Ks. I am pretty miserable right now, but it is getting better. When I am buzzed I toss in a dip to help the cravings

Keep up the great work man! I've been nicotine free for almost two full weeks now. I gave it up for lent but decided I needed to quit early to prepare for lent lol. After 11 years my body is now permanently getting fucked up. I want to be around when my kids have kids.

My buddy's dad is getting his second leg amputated tomorrow, first one came off last year. All from vascular damage from smoking for 40+ years. If he had stopped a few years ago when they took his toes he wouldn't have lost either leg.
Quit for your family. Good luck op |
|
Good job OP. I encourage lots of people to stop tobacco since one of my aunts died from cancer last year
And God bless you. |

6+ years for me after smoking for 20
You can do it and it feels fucking great. No monkey on your back. Your time is your own and you can do whatever you want without having to feed the addiction every hour or whatever. The number of things that no longer inconvenience me like airport delays, meetings, socializing with non smokers really surprised me. I hadn't realized what a time suck smoking was and how it affected my productivity. Concentration is better too because I'm not always interrupting myself to go smoke. Best part is I can hang out with smokers and not smoke, or want to, or pretend that I don't want to. It's a simple non issue now and actually feels like I never smoked at all. Z |

Its gotta be hard on him to see what his family has to go through to visit, care for him, etc. |

Good for you OP.
I haven't had a cigarette in over 2 years, but I do vape 0% nicotine juice. THe next step ( over this summer) is to give up to give up the vaping. One step at a time. |

I finally stopped 1 year ago on 2/19/16 at 16:03, went cold turkey, also stopped drinking coffee and booze, all the same day, all my triggers for craving a cigarette. Booze ban lasted about a month. Still don't drink coffee but would love a cigarette, butt then one leads to another.... |

You start hacking all that crap out of your lungs with some good cardio exercise and you'll feel even better. Weather's great in AZ right now. Take advantage. We just drove to Canyon and Apache lakes this past weekend just to get outside for a walkabout. |

Most addictive drug out there, IMO.
Good luck. A week is nothing. Better start thinking in longer terms, or not thinking about it at all. I had a friend get hypnotized and that worked for him. |

I quit cold turkey around 25 yrs ago
Stay strong OP ( and everyone else ) You can live a long a healthy life without tobacco |
|
If you make yourself hate the idea of smoking, then quitting is easy.
Every time you think of smoking, imagine yourself lying in a hospital bed vomiting, with your hair falling out from the chemo. Picture the smoke as black filth coating your lungs Picture yourself coughing up black chunks of dead lung Picture yourself with a hole in your neck Do that enough and you'll never feel the twinge to smoke again don't dip. that's a step backwards |
|
Good show!
BTW for those who don't smoke or dip, don't start, your brain is literately rewired to crave the drugs, that is why it is so tough to quit a drug addiction of any kind. |

Coming up on four years after smoking for over 40.
Pay attention when you're out in public. Smell the people who walk by that just smoked. That was you. That was me. No mas |
|
Good luck, man. I'm on the wagon right along with you, or at least trying. I've had two cigs in the past two weeks. One was last night after a particularly stressful episode at work.
Keep plugging away and let's kick these nasty things out for good! |

My condolences.

I quit 14 months ago, so did the wife. It's a life changing experience.

I'm coming up on 12 year smoke free after smoking for 32 years.
Keep it up, OP...you can do it! |
|
"Toss in a dip."
Great solution. That's like a recovering alcoholic saying "When I get really stressed, I drink a couple of ounces of hair tonic." |
|
|
After about 10 times trying to quit I finally tried Chantix. Makes you feel like shit but man it makes the cravings easier to get through. I smoked 2 packs a day and 2 cans Cope snuff a week for 20 years and quit after 6 weeks of Chantix. The side effects aren't as bad as you might hear.
|
|
You can do it man. 2 pack a day til I was 30 and quit cold turkey. 1+ can a day of Copenhagen from 8 years old to 37 and I quit that as well.
It ain't easy but if I can do it you can too. |

Good job OP. Stay the course. I lost my father to lung cancer in 2003. Not fun.

I quit cold turkey December 27th after 25 years. I'm done with that shit, I feel great, also got myself back in the gym 5 days a week. I have a ton of energy now, I've had long term clients comment on how well I look.

Congrats! I just hit 18 months. Cold turkey + Alan Carr + Sunflower seeds and never looked back
edit: The Stop Smoking subreddit was a real help for me, also. Worth checking out if you're feeling weak |

Make sure you don't accidentally make the switch to dip full time. View Quote Don't do the dip. I lived in NJ for most of my life and cannot remember anyone doing dip. I moved to WV in 2011 and can say that has to be the disgusting habits around. You see wads of that shit all over the place. Guys carrying spit bottles and cups. They are spitting in garbage cans and on the parking lots. I see guys spitting there wad into their hands then throwing it to the ground then wanting to shake your hand. fuck no! I saw one kid at Wal-Mart (go figure) he was working at the TLE he would spit in the garbage can then wipe the spit off his lips with his hand then hand the customer their keys. It does no good to complain because the store manager does the same. Fucking redneck (no disrespect to rednecks) |

I quit smoking, dipping, the damn nicotine gum, my body covered in patches, and whiskey, but if I ever had to quit coffee, I don't know what I would do with myself. I limit myself to two cups per day (these are big boy cups, however). Try to not throw a dip in when craving, OP. That's exactly what is going to make you start dipping regularly man. |

Coming up on 3 years done for me at 36 only took mutiple heart attacks, stroke, 4 stents in my heart, and 3 rounds of surgery with a bout of permanent nerve damage on my left side from the stroke that I fight with everyday from the age of 33 when all this went down. Feels nice standing talking to someone then feel like you got sliced from ass to neck in your back or wearing a suite of needle on your face or left arm or got a vibrator strapped to your left leg that never ends.
Congrats dude keep it up biggest thing I found with 20 plus years smoking is keep your cig hand busy find a alternate use maybe on your lady friend not trying to be to crude. |

Good for you OP. 38 years ago I went from 3 packs a day to zero cold turkey
