The one in the hallway downstairs started "chirping" so I replaced the battery and the damn thing still chirps. What's going on, guys?

Is there more than one in your house and are they hard wired in? I have 3 in my house and they are hard wired with bat back-ups, about a month ago one of them started chirping and I swear all of them started, so I replaced the bats in all of them, no more chirps.

Use a fresh Alkaline 9V. Some detectors will chirp with the cheap carbon-zinc batteries. Noah

1shott, the ones upstairs are hardwired w/backups, I forgot to specify that I wanted that done when we had the downstairs finished. I will now replace all. Noah, I used Duracell.

I guess I didn't have the battery secured in the detector in question. Thanks guys.

I just replaced one yesterday that continued to chirp even with a new battery. I just threw it away and got another one. Like everything else, they go bad.
