I've been a big critic of S&W since their sale, since the HUD agreement is still technically binding.

I finally got off my ass and emailed them about it.

They PHONED me back - 3 times.

I finally linked up and spoke in depth with them.

- everyone involved with the agreement in S&W and HUD are gone

- the agreement, while still binding, isn't being enforced and they realize it's impossible to follow

- they have tried to get it recinded, but nobody in Washington wants to do anything right now

- they just spend $1,000,000 winning a lawsuit.

- they are facing 12 more lawsuits

Basically, they have to focus on the immediate threats, and the HUD agreement isn't one.

They are very open to talking with you about this, if this doesn't answer it for you, give them a call.

I was very impressed with their candor and honesty. I think they are doing the best they can, and really support the American shooter. They earned my respect back, FWIW

I have no hard feelings against S&W since they were sold back to Americans. I doubt that agreement will ever be made good on. I think the government has their hands full enforcing other laws. Oh yeah, I bought a SW1911 about 6 months ago and it is bad ass.

+1 I have one of the SW1911s as well. With four 1911s in my stable, that pistol is by far my favorite shooter. S&W has top notch customer service and the agreement will never be honored by the current owners.
