Smallpox was eradicated in the early 1970's, but there is a new outbreak reported in Pakistan. Sounds like some of Al Queda's biological warfare bugs got loose and infected the locals. It is only a matter of time until smallpox hits the US and Europe. This is serious stuff because the death rate is between 10 and 30% of the population. Is this legit?

If this is legit it sounds like this has been an ongoing problem. Meaning it's not a recent terrorist attack. But I still gotta get on that iodine order....

It's hard to tell if any news coming from Pakistan is legit.

This sounds a little fishy. That being said the CDC (Center for Disease Control) has said nothing about an outbreak. According to their website there has not been a "natural" case of Variola virus since 1977. They haven't updated their site since June 3 though. There is no guarentee that it lasts for life. You really need a booster every 20 years or so.

Unless I hear it from a more credible source than DAWN, I'm betting it's measles. There are a couple of other poxes that can cause similar symptoms in humans, too, IIRC.

At least it wasn't the dreaded largepox. [rolleyes]
