The Sierra Club went to court in Hawaii to obtain an order to remove the wild goats and sheep from Mauna Kea (a 14,000 ft mountain/volcano) here on the Big Island of Hawaii, on the grounds that the animals were eating Mamane trees.  These trees are the supposed home of the rare Palila bird. Well they have now had 35,000 sheep and goats killed and the Palilia bird numbers continue to decline.  It is now thought that it may be that rats are climbing the trees and eating the baby birds. In spite of this, they were using helicopters last Saturday to kill the remaining sheep and goats.  Sling loads of lambs and ewes were being dumped out at the helicopter landing area. It was sickening.....and signaled the end of an era.  Traditional hunting has ended.  THE LARGEST KILLER OF WILD GAME IN THE PACIFIC REGION IS THE SIERRA CLUB.  May the Sierra Club fascists rot in HELL!!!!

If this is true, and I am not doubting you I saw some pretty ridiculous things while stationed in Hawaii, then they must be the biggest hypocrites in the world.  What moron's in the government would go along with this.

"To save the wildlife, we had to destroy the wildlife"
The same thing is happening in Colorado, they are killing non-native fish and bringing back the original fish that were there 200 years ago. Problem is the native fish are not as adaptable, therefore not as many fish to catch.

This is all true.  Unfortunately!  The hunters here were basically impotent which may be a cultural submission to authority--possibly oriental tradition.  The idea about contacting PETA is great. Sick 'em on the Sierra Club!! This whole thing is very frustrating---many of the sheep were wild Muflon, a very much treasured game animal in the Mediterranean.  The National Park Service is now planning to buy a major ranch on the south of the island adjacent to Volcanoes National Park and plan to eliminate all non-native species.  Problem is, everything is non-native here.  It all arrived on this barren rock from somewhere else.  How far back do we go. It is all just some do gooders idea of restoring something which I do not think ever existed. Hunting is being conveniently eliminated.  Then who will need a gun? At the same time the USFWS is spending millions to save the Hawaiian crow--only 30 or so left--truth is no one can tell the difference from a mainland crow. And on and on.....good things and traditions are destroyed!! Thanks for the concern!

Does'nt surprise me a bit!  The Sierra Club and the Green Gestopo teaming up to do some good!  You know what would make the USFWS and FS happy?  If absolutely no one could use public ground that would just make them happy as hell.  No ATV's, no camping, no roads, no hikeing, no hunting those are their ultimate goals, when there is absolutely no human presance other than gov't agents then they'll be happy.
