Good for them.  That was bad timing on the crook's part, huh?  Best situational awareness post I saw on ar15.com was the guy that claimed to have had a friend lightly assault his wife as she exited her suv at home so she would learn the lesson of looking around before she jumped out of car and walked to house,  etc.  Not sure that marriage lasted.

I think that was Mr. clean? the poster who used to own strip clubs, and has a bald guy in the avatar. He got Banned not to long ago, but for what i don't know he always had interesting posts.  He said that the marriage was still going strong.

Tough situation ,question for the LEO's is there a better way to handle this?  He could have been killed trying to holster his weapon after previously drawing it. This is twice this week in the same city where a LEO was struggling with perp and could have gotten killed had the guy taken gun away!

And what about getting that close and putting his weapon up against the guys head? Is that correct?

Im just armchair quarterbacking here and hindsight is always 20/20, but in situations such as this where deadly force may not be authorized we forget that a criminal probably isnt just going to lie down even with a gun to their head. And when that happens you have 1 hand to do all the work of taking him down and youve just put yourself in jeapordy if you are disarmed or the criminal is smart and takes advantage of the situation as the pistol is being holstered.

Then again It seems odd that the officer would be putting the gun to the robbers head. Standing back with gun drawn and issuing orders would have allowed a much cleaner reholster.

Again, im not a cop and ive got the luxury or critiquing from the video.

ETA: well shit, looks like I took too long to type out my response, both points already addressed.

Very bad situation.

That's the problem with pointing a gun at a guy that has empty hands.......He just might not do what you tell him, and if you can't say that it is a life and death confrontation, you can't shoot him.  Then it becomes "hands-on" and you have a gun in one hand.

As an old officer once told me about pistols, "These things aren't worth a crap if you don't really intend to shoot someone."

I can see where this cop is very lucky. I took a constitutional law class a long time ago back in college. We had a Detective in class from Chicago P.D and I remember him saying "do not draw it unless you are prepared to use it" the guy in this video knew the cop wasntt going to shoot him. let me ask this, if he is rolling around on the ground with the guy grabbing his gun is he justified to shoot then?

My Academy Sergeant, circa 1987: "Boys, that pistol's just like your dick. It ain't got no business bein' out and pointin' at someone, less'n yer figgrin' on usin' it."

The nice thing about a Sig 220P relative to the plastic types is that if you don't shoot you could still raise a pretty good knot on his noggin.

Absolutely! That officer is lucky he didn't get on the wrong end of his own gun.

It seems the officer initially thought the perp was armed and about to shoot (cashier put her hands up and stepped back). I guess I don't find it entirely unreasonable to put the muzzle in direct contact with the head, ensuring a shot to the CNS if the perp started shooting or stabbing.

That said, the great flaw in that plan was the perp wasn't armed and didn't want to cooperate. Tough call, but I'll go with O_P and say distance is generally preferred to direct contact.

IMO It could have been handled differently. Why did the officer put his gun to the perps head? He closed the distance from a safe position to hands on, it could have ended badly. He should have been off of the guy and gave verbal commands, X26 in hand if the perp refuses. Pull trigger on X26 and cuff the perp. Go home safely. That officer needs to go get some more training.

That robber has the worst timing ever, the officer needs to take some martial arts lessons or something.
