I'm sick of this shit. I wake up in the morning and feel like my head has been buried in Nancy Pelosi's crotch. I'm hacking up cups of green slime with a pounding headache.

Where's that miracle cure with the neti pot?

Some Drano and a toilet plunger should do the trick.

I know that GD highly recommends colloidal silver in large doses.

the neti pot thing works pretty well- just don't use it if either or both sides is completely blocked off.

any drugstore will have them- gross and effective (sometimes effective).

That doctor thing works good too, if it's an infection he or she may give you a little slip of paper to take to your favorite apothecary and they'll give you something that really works. It is complicated but it does work.

+1 for the neti pot. Works for me. If you're totally blocked up get a saline spray and use that.

Also, hot bath.

I get sinus infections as well, the neti pot helps, but you have to use it on a regular basis, at least I do to get any benefit.

- Insanely hot Thai food
- Indian Vindaloo
- Big ball of wasabi

Your choice... will flush those sinuses clear!

Yup, as fantastic as hosing out your sinuses can be for some people, it won't replace antibiotics and/or steroids sometimes.

Then again, sometimes an ENT will offer saline spiked with antibiotics and/or steroids for nasal rinse.  My wife has had that a few times, though she uses a NeilMed sinus rinse bottle instead of a neti pot.

Warning on the saline mixes though... We've had a hell of a time finding a pharmacy in our prescription plan that will cook it up.  Seems to be mostly the role of compounding pharmacies.  They're expensive and picky about who pays them, but that's to be expected from a business that produces their own concoctions as opposed to just bottling and distributing finished products.

Yea, if you've got it bad it's kind of a maintenance thing.  Twice daily nose hosing has mostly stabilized my wife's sinuses.  This is actually incredible success for her, as her prior prognosis was sinus surgery every ten years or so.

Sinus polyps are hell.

Use the neti pot for daily comfort and to hopefully avoid getting an infection in the first place.  I used it multiple times daily last week during a head cold but ended up with an infection anyways.  I'm on day 6 of Augmentin, the only stuff that knocks out my sinus infections.

OP, if you have a full blown sinus infection go to the doctor.  Antibiotics might be the only way out of this.  I am prone to sinus infections, even after surgery a number of years ago and I can tell when I've reached the tipping point and need meds.

Good luck.

Corey

The doctor thing works well for me too. Antibiotics, cortisone shot and a couch medicine script.

That's the nuclear option. I've been there one too many times where I schedule an appointment, pay the money, wait two hours, just to hear,

"Yep, you're sick. You need to rest and let it run it's course."

Then I tend to get upset.

If it's a true infection you need meds to kill the bacteria. Neti pots are wonderful things, they clear up mild stoppages. If you're full blown cold or sinus infection they'll help mitigate but it ain't no cure. Plus you need to use it at least twice a day. Got hot as you can on the water to help loosen the phlegm... but do a little at a time so you know how hot is too hot. Sinuses are sensitive. Make sure you use enough salt (pref. untreated salt.) Too little and it'll feel like you jumped into a swimming pool and water shot up your nose. It helps keep the balance.

A towel over your head over a boiling pot or humidifier might do better if you have the patience.

A side benefit is that if your mucus is vibrating at the right frequency, your snot will turn into gold! Transmutation for the win!!!!!!!

(learned that at the bottom of page six. )

My wife's surgeon was one of the first doing that surgery.  It's apparently incredible.  For people with less severe polyps than Mrs. Smith, it's a great option with far less risk and an easier recovery than the older methods, which work if you have a good surgeon, but suuuuuuuuuuck.

sometimes I will take a q tip and dip it into some vicks then carefully line the inside of my schnostrils with it. Helps me breath when I sleep.
On the bottle it says don't do that.

Stop by your local spirits store and pick up a bottle of bourbon.
Drink said bourbon.

Take two ibuprofen  in the morning with a sudafed for the headache.
You'll thank me later.

When this happens to me:

I inject warm salt water up the nose - hold it as long as possible, then blow out the contents.
Repeat once or twice on each nostril. More if needed. Twice per day if needed.

3-5 days is the longest I've had to do this for any infection.

FWIW - burns like hell the first few times.

I've read the crap about silver. Drinking 16oz a day is going a little overboard. Just like drinking a 16 oz bottle of Nyquil isn't good for you either.

I've got a small spray bottle that contains maybe an ounce that I've used for sore throats in the past. I doubt I've used half of it. It helps. Probably the same results as really salty water. No blue results.

No way I would put silver in my nose, that shit would burn too much.

saline rinse, xylatol rinse, colloidal silver all work but salt (large pinch in 1 ounce) is cheap and you probably have it, also take sudefed.

there is also a series of products out based on capsacien (sp*)  I use the called Allergy Buster but they have a Sinus Buster and a couple others too.  they have worked wonders for my sinus problems.

Remember this is a tool and must be repected as such. Don't squeeze the thing so hard you blast saline in other sinuses. If you feel pain by/near your ears and not much flow is coming out squeeze lighter. This is by far the best sinus cleanser I have even used.

Indeed Yes, While I can give it a Good blast, Now,
Go easy until you know what is right for you.

Also never use just water (without the salt mix)
My son did and said it burns. (I trust him )

Dam your lucky I have had it for over a week and a half and have a perforated ear drum to go with it. On the bright side after my ear drum pop my headache went away. Go to the doctor and get some antibiotics and stop your whining .

A good hot and sour soup also works well.

My wife has suffered for almost 20 years with recurring infections, but she won't do the sinus rinse thing.  I think she's changing her mind, though - she's getting less and less sympathy from me and the kids.

Antibiotics are not the cure-all and the consensus in medicnine is beginning to change because of their over usage.
Some docs are saying––treat the symptoms––neti pot and all, and let it run it's course. Over usage of abx has led to bugs that are resistant.
