US coins were 90% silver in and before 1964.

From 65 through 68 they were silver clad cupronickel centers. Starting in 69, the coinage was entirely debased.

From my memory...
Silver coins are worth at least 3x their face value. Maybe 4x with the current pricing now. |

Prior to 1960 they were 90% silver. From 1960-64 they were 40% silver.
ETA or is it 65-69 40% and pre-65 90%, sorry must be losing it... |

It'll give you a ton of info about how much US silver coinage is going for. BTW silver is at about 12 bucks an ounce............. |

90% silver halves are available in special silver proof sets as well

I was just wondering b/c I have lots of them at home. I know some are silver but just wondering about the rest. I have seen the silver proof sets for sell (I've been looking at buying some bullion  )

The dimes and quarters in the silver proofs are 90% also. I bought uncirculated silver dollars the past few years for $7.50 or so. They're about double or more that now. |

I've been buying silver and non silver proof sets as well as regular (non silver) mint sets since 1999 directly from the mint. It's been a great investment so far. Seems after a year or so after the mint sells out of them the prices double and then some, check out bottom of www.bestcoin.com/us-proof-sets.htm and www.bestcoin.com/us-mint-sets.htm Biggest winner is the 1999 silver proof sets, I ordered 2, the max they would allow you to order at the time, now they're worth about $455 each. 3 or so years ago I bought 2 1/2 rolls of BU Kennedy halves at about $40 a roll. Wish I bought a boat load of silver and gold bullion though |
