When were the $.50 pieces made of sivler?

What other coins (recnetly made) were made of gold or silver?  Any websites that have this info?

thanks,
Russian

US coins were 90% silver in and before 1964.

From 65 through 68 they were silver clad cupronickel centers.  Starting in 69, the coinage was entirely debased.

From my memory...

Silver coins are worth at least 3x their face value.

Maybe 4x with the current pricing now.

Prior to 1960 they were 90% silver.  From 1960-64 they were 40% silver.

ETA or is it 65-69 40% and pre-65 90%, sorry must be losing it...

google "junk silver".
It'll give you a ton of info about how much US silver coinage is going for.
BTW silver is at about 12 bucks an ounce.............

The second 1/2 of your statement.
1964 and older - 90%
1965 thru 1969 - 40%
1970 on - Little or none

I guess to hijack my thread....are wheat head cents worth anything?   Any years worth more than others?

I deal in coins so here are the real answers:

half dollars, quarters and dimes 1794-1964 90% silver
half dollars 1965-1970 40% silver

wheat pennies 1909-1958

if your half dollars are common date, 1900-1964, and in reasonably worn condition you are looking at about $4.00 per coin or 8 times face value.

wheat pennies that are common date and worn are being bought at about $.02 each.

enjoy

I was just wondering b/c I have lots of them at home.  I know some are silver but just wondering about the rest. I have seen the silver proof sets for sell (I've been looking at buying some bullion)

The dimes and quarters in the silver proofs are 90% also.

I bought uncirculated silver dollars the past few years for $7.50 or so. They're about double or more that now.

I've been buying silver and non silver proof sets as well as regular (non silver) mint sets since 1999 directly from the mint.  It's been a great investment so far.  Seems after a year or so after the mint sells out of them the prices double and then some, check out bottom of
www.bestcoin.com/us-proof-sets.htm
and www.bestcoin.com/us-mint-sets.htm

Biggest winner is the 1999 silver proof sets, I ordered 2, the max they would allow you to order at the time, now they're worth about $455 each.

3 or so years ago I bought 2 1/2 rolls of BU Kennedy halves at about $40 a roll.

Wish I bought a boat load of silver and gold bullion though
