If a shotgun barrel says  2 3/4" shells only...Is that only because of the chamber and forcing cone in the barrel
It would seem that all I have to do to shoot 3" shells, is change the barrel (is this correct?)

I was looking at some used semi auto shottys (Rem 1100, and Winchester) at a local fun store, all of them were chambered for 2 3/4" only.

As far as I know you need a reciever that can handle 3" shells, not just the bbl

Some receivers arent long or strong enough for 3 inch shells.

Some recievers ejection ports are not large enough(remmy)

That's it... you need "bolt throw" and ejection port size to use 3"

Beretta 390 and 391 as well as Benelli semi-autos will handle 3".

It would also help to have an ejector far enough back to kick the shell out after it clears the ejection port.
