The FBI has stated that they believe there to be a 100% chance that there will be a retalitory strike vs. the US because of our offensive in Bin Ladenville.

Call me paranoid, but I have this sick feeling that it's going to be big and that they have some sort of nuclear device and that they're going to use it.

Isn't there some way we can detect high radiation output from the air and track these things down?

Okay, you're paranoid.  Well, you said to call you that.

I believe that if they had nukes, biological,  or chemical capability they would have already used them.  A nuke would have been far worse than WTC, although it was terrible on it's own.

Just about to say the same thing as LARRYG.

Any remaining terrorists in the United States will need to use what they can get their hands on here.

Hopefully they don't have any nukes. But if they did, why go around trying to rent crop dusters?

The fact that we are running around grounding crop dusters, looking for nukes, and buying gas masks is the goal of terriorism.  They have one that round.  Now it's OUR turn!

I understand your paranoia.  I think it will be a very eventful week.  I disagree with Stealth however as I believe that there are probally terrorist in this country that have been lying in wait for years.  Their plans and equipment are probably already in place, they're just waiting for the signal...which may have been todays attacks. This will happen!!

I do not look forward to any more American deaths and pray that I am wrong.  However if/when they do occur it will show the anti-war protesters the type of people we are really dealing with.

These terroriast groups are not to be taken lightly and there is no need to "understand  them" or "evaluate our own policies" as some people/groups are suggesting.  The only need is to annilate them...completely and thoroughly.  I just regret that it will take more American deaths before thesee people fully realize that[:(]

I havn't made up my mind on this one yet, but I am leaning ever so slightly to ,"They don't have them here." side of things.  However,  If I were them I would definately have them. And I would have them here.  Hmmm, I just can't decide on this one.  However, with the operational silence that these guys seem to keep. I am sure that there would be NO communications nor knowledge between one groups actions and anothers. So I wouldn't necessarily accept the premise that they wouldn't be asking about crop dusters. It may be their job to ask about crop duster rentals. However, it may be another groups job to set up suit case nukes.  No they wouldn't talk to each other, or even have knowledge of each other. If one groups or even one person is caught and is administered sodium pentuthal then they could compromise several groups. Not good tactically, strategically so I would guess they have no knowledge other then what they are trained to do.

Benjamin

Now I find myself leaning slightly toward the , They have them HERE side".   God be with us.

What mattja said!

These guys went for maximum damage at the WTC. Even so, it took them several attempts to get the job done — and they failed at hitting the capitol!  If they had nukes, don't you think they would have already used them?

Basically, they're ferk-ups. Look for a lot of other arrests and botched jobs over the next few months.

Terrorists do not have the infrastructure (secure facilities) to have nukes lying around for years like a real country does. If Abdullah Camel should happen to have a nuke he would want to use it RIGHT NOW! The risk of it being discovered/stolen/destroyed is way too high.

And I can see it now- some not-so-committed member of your group, with a taste for the ladies realizes what you have. He is smart enough to realize that if he waltzes into the nearest US Embassy and spills the beans, he's going to have all the money he would ever need.

Re: the crop-dusters. I thought about that, haven't seen it speculated much, but I wonder if the plan was to use one as a flying bomb. Remember, a crop duster is just a big bucket with wings, you could fit a lot of ANFO in one. Then they realized a commercial jet was easier to steal!

Car bombs are next. Maybe more kamikaze flights, but I doubt it. The goobermint is real good at cracking down AFTER the fact, they probably will keep trying different things.

Just be ready.  Try to prepare for things as best you can, and also understand that you have time to prepare for things.  The nukes will yeild in the tac nuke range say 10-20 Kilotons. So 1 Mile of destruction.  If they do have them they will be at a sporting event or a Military base, or a state seat of power or washington.
Or a city. They could even be placed in Europe. England, France, Germany, or in Isreal.  Who knows.

But who knows???? , I don't know.

I agree as most people do that a nuclear detonation is probably the most horrific thing around.  Suppose one was set off here in Phoenix...say one of the modern ~400 KT devices.  It's mostly bye-bye downtown with tons of suffering in the suburbs depending on which way the wind blows.  However Tucson would be able to evacuate ok even if the wind is blowing that way.  It's a fairly local disaster...but no doubt, a true disaster for that locale.

Most nuclear devices are not exactly like a blender where you have a switch on the front to turn it on.  Plus they take maintenence on a fairly regular basis.  A "broken" nuke would be dangerous to be sure, but it wouldn't be able to achieve a nuclear detonation.

A nuclear detonation takes some very exact circumstances.  For example, suppose a B1 Lancer loaded with nuclear missles crashes...there wouldn't be a nuclear detonation as the impact with the ground would create a situation that was so far outside of what's needed to achieve a nuclear detonation, that it would just be a mess with some local radioactive danger at the crash site.

There's still some dangerous stuff you could do with one though.  Put one in a car-bomb and you've got a radioactive cloud for a number of blocks.  And even then, it may be a week before the people are diagnosed with radiation poisoning.

In any case...you are correct.  A functioning nuclear device used by a terrorist is a possibility.  My guess is that it is remote as I say they'd have to buy one off the former-USSR intact and the chances of it not being in perfect working order are probably fairly good.

I don't think you guys appreciate how easy it would be to make chem or bio weapons. The trick is not killing yourselves in the process. As to why they haven't done so yet, that is something you would have to ask them.

deport all muslims...unless they can prove that they are 100% loyal to US,,I don't hate to generalize,,cause I'm accurate when I speak of these people,,,I don't know of 1 arab/muslim that would die for this greatest of countries,,they come here for the economic benefits,,they have no concept of loyalty to the US,,not like the previous immigrants ie: european and forced immigrants African,,,hell even the recent flood og grants from India should be dep[orted for their loyalty is not with US,,not one that I;'ve spoken to would die for US,,time to wake up[ and throw them all out for the benefit of the whole,,,if they are not citzens,,next time you run into a arab ask them if they would die for US or would they be willing to have a loved one die for US(USA),,,time to kick them out for US,,time to take our country back,,and back from the liberal cowards also,,,funny thing,,I live in a area full of liberals,,now all of a sudden fighting a war is ok,,damm does it happen to be because we are against muslim terrorists?

Also, as I recall, the intelligence source actually stated that there was a 100% chance of a retalitory strike AGAINST U.S. INTERESTS. That includes foreign citizens, offices and assets, which are much easier targets than their stateside counterparts.

(NOTE TO SELF: Cancel travel plans to Beruit for the next several months...)

My thoughts:

1.  As paranoid about the Gov.org as we are, do you really believe that they don't have a way of monitoring increased radiation levels in international ports/airports/border crossings?
Hell, you can buy a cheap Geiger-Muller by mail from the 50's.  Do you really think that by now at least the gov.org doesn't have something that  can pinpoint rad sources from miles away?

2.  If/when they catch the guys smuggling SADM items into the country, do you really suppose it will ever hit the media or go to trial?  I would pre-suppose a standing order that anyone caught smuggling them in is to be turned over to the FBI/NSA for immediate interrogation, and anyone having knowledge of the arrest or item is told of "dire consequences" if they ever speak of it.  That is presuming that the guy carrying the backpack doesn't disappear without the airport/border guards, etc. knowing anything about it, or just happening to have a fatal heart attack after someone "bumps" into him.

3.  My worries would be more on biological weapons--they are basically indetectable from a distance.

We will have this conversation again when the "gentlemen" deal another blow(and they will, you can be sure...).

1)Round up and remove all, and I mean A-L-L Arab and other foreign persons in this country on whatever visa NOW, at gunpoint.  After a certain date, if are you still here and cannot prove citizenship, summary death penalty.

2) Arab descent citizens must register location with government at once.  Local law enforcement must monitor their activities, both for our safety and theirs.  When the retaliation comes, a live Arab will be hard to find here.  Political correctness will be gone like a warm summer breeze.

The general population still wants to hang on to that "warm fuzzy feeling" of multiculturalism.  We will soon see about that...

We have begun a war, it will become nasty, and some of it will be fought right here.

Edited because I am[|)]

Actually.... Citizens should NOT be interned or otherwise detained or punished...
but NON-CITIZENS should be shipped off in a rubber raft.

A US war on the entire Islamic religion is what Bin Laden wants, using a nuke would likely get him his wish.

I think if they poped a nuke in the CONUS, it would be about what would be required to have the US population adopt Adolfs "final solution" for for Islam.

As long as said nuke was popped in Claifornia, we might get some actual good use from it.

The Dept. of Energy has teams of scientists and engineers called Nuclear Emergency Search Teams (NEST).  They are specialists in the location of missing nucs or detecting terrorist nucs, or identifying the bacis components of a nuc that has been detonated.  They work with and report the the FIB and the State Dept., depending on whether or not the crisis is at home or overseas.  They are called out in emergencies such as we have now.  The NEST have lots of ways to locate a terrorist bomb...hopefully before the enemy sets the damn thing off.  Nuclear bombs are not invisible.  They are detectable, if you know what you are doing.  If they do find it, they then call in the military EOD guys to disarm it.
Another thing to remember, IF they got their hands on a nuc, it was probably a former Soviet tactical weapon...possibly a low-yield "suitcase" weapon designed to be used by SPETNATZ commandos to blow up certain targets behind our lines.  HOPEFULLY, the Russkies built certain security devices into these weapons.  WE certainly do.  They can be any one of several different types of cypher/crypto locks, sometimes in multiples, to make them harder to defeat...and in virtually ALL cases, requiring positive human interface from more than one person, each with DIFFERENT codes, to make work.  Also, if somebody tries to fiddle around with the damn thing and fails to open the lock and arm it, the weapon commits suicide by destroying the arming circuits inside.  Yes, you might be able to grind the case open and remove the nuclear components, but that would pose huge problems and then you would have to build another arming and fuzing system.  Not impossible...but WAY hard and most likely far beyond the capabilities of the Taliban or the Al Qaeda.
Bottom line...I'd still be worried.  I'm sure the NEST folks are very busy right now.  I hope they win the race...but I'm being careful anyway.
