I have lived next door to her for 6 months and we've spoken once before, when I was mowing my yard.
The other night I was going out and she was walking her dogs. She passed by me so I struck up a conversation. It turns out she's 33 and single, no kids.

We ended up talking for about an hour (the people I was supposed to meet were kind of pissed.) She mentioned she liked movies (who doesn't though right) so I took that as her inviting me to ask her to go to one.

She works long hours and I have my duaghter on some of the days she'd be available, so the way it ended up was I told her we'd go to a local movie/rest. combo place on some Saturday night, but we didn't make any definite plans.

So, is it a bad idea to date my neighbor?

My thoughts:
If we end up not clicking, then no big deal because this was the second time we had ever spoken - in 6 months. Unlikely to be frequently awckward.
It would be bad form to bring another woman over, especially if she ended up being a psycho-stalker EX like some women do.

Can't tell you with pic's

Why the hell not? Beats the heck out of asking about women you meet at work. If she comes over too much, you can always lock the door on her.

no pics?

She's 33 and single? I would be wondering what's wrong? Maybe she's a lesbian?

Pie comes before friends. Real buddies KNOW that.

Yes.

Go for it.

It could be the love of your life, or not.

You have to try to know.

Link Posted: 8/19/2005 8:38:40 PM EDT
Did you really have to ask?

More hitting, less typing.

I was actually meeting some women I work with - it was one's 30's birthday and we were supposed to meet at a dance club/pool hall, but by the time I met up with them they were tired of waiting for me so they went to a different club. They got over it once I showed up at place #2. That was kind of shitty of me, but oh well.

Divorced with no kids. I doubt a lesbian would have agreed to a date with me.

no pics?

What would you think if you went outside to check the mail and your neighbors was taking pic of you with a digital camera? Yeah, me too.

Is she big?

No. Probably 10 pounds overweight. She's 33 and does not have a 21 year old's physique, but neither do I. Body mass index, I'm probably heavier than she is.
Link Posted: 8/19/2005 8:53:25 PM EDT
Nothing good can come of this.
You don't shit where you live, and that's exactly what it will turn out to be. A BIG SHIT!

Don't let your next post be:

Should I move away from my psycho neighbor:

A) yes
B) no
C) stick it in her pooper

Never date a woman bigger than you.

Because you can't smoke whilst you drink it.

Sure. WHy not? If she turns out to be psycho it'll make for some interesting survival forum posts.

Dude, this is a no-brainer.

Do you like the woman? Then Yes.

If not, then NO.

If it doesn't work out it doesn't work out. She is an adult, yes? Both you and her should be able to take being "dumped" if it doesn't work out and not take it personally, no?

If you do keep the relationship secret from you daughter for a while. Just take it easy.

Link Posted: 8/19/2005 10:02:16 PM EDT

Start digging a tunnel to her house now - just in case.

Link Posted: 8/19/2005 10:04:42 PM EDT
Why not?

Chances that she is a psychopath are small in the first place, and most of that kind of drama can be averted by TAKING YOUR TIME with things.

I love Dinner theaters..The Bear Tooth in Anchorage is THE best place for dates.....oddball movie, ecclectic food, etc helps facilitate the image of being a sensitive male. That way when she sees your gun collection she will think "well rounded" rather than "fookin' psycho."
Link Posted: 8/19/2005 10:09:05 PM EDT
Go for it but be careful. Hang out a lot see what happens and take it slow. I've been in a similar situation before and because of the proximety things can progress quicker than is healthy. It'd be nothing for her to spend the night since her shit's next door. Once they spend the night once you may as well be married to them. Cause next time they'll leave shit. The 3rd time they'll move your shit for more room for their shit. 4th time and they'll be throwing your shit out for more room for that shit and the dreaded "grooming" stage in which they've decided to mold away your rough edges because they got told to in the bride magazine they bought after they left after first time they spent the night.
Link Posted: 8/19/2005 10:09:09 PM EDT
Dude, go for it. She could be really cool. Shit, you get to drink a pitcher of Guinness anyways out of the deal right?

I dated a chick next door once. It sucked big time because she was thinking it was exclusive after the first date and the first romp in the sack. If I had a chick over that was just a friend, no romance - she got pissed about it and I caught hell in other ways.

She hooked me into watching her kids for hours on end b/c I was "expected" to.

She "borrowed" $200 to take a trip to get her older daughter out of a jam. Never saw her or the cash ever again, but I saw her car and kids all the time. I looked at it as paying to get rid of her. It turned out that it was worth it.

ETA: I did get naked pix of her out of the deal - but she wasn't THAT good looking.

I say "nay" but who ever listens when pie is potentially involved....

Have an exit strategy - or "escape plan" if you will.

She is 33. It is likely that she has outgrown the psycho phase ( no guarantee, just likely). The probabilities are high that she has a few scars ( metophoric) and not looking to add any. Just take it slow and PAY ATTENTION to what she says and does. She will reveal her character over time. Don't overlook anything. It all matters.

Your daughter has no need to know about it until you are sure that this woman is a keeper.

The fact that you have to ask this question on the internet tells me that you don't have the balls to fuck her anyway so why bother. Jeez she's lived next door for 6 months and you haven't sniffed around that tree yet.

Never date a neighbor unless you are renting and can move away FAST if things don't go well :)
