I have a chance to pick up a brand new Remington 870 Police Magnum, model 4459 (18" parkerized barrel, rifle sights, synthetic SpeedFeed I stock) for $459.  I don't own a shotgun (I have a couple of handguns and an RRA Entry Tac), and I've been looking around for an 870 Police Magnum, but not necessarily this one.  But, this deal seems too good to pass up.

Thoughts?

You really cant find a better all-around shotgun. I'd say buy it.

I'd buy it if I had the money.

Seems a little high for the gun, but the gun is definitely one to have.

I bought my FIL a Magnum with a longer vent-ribbed barrel and an 18inch rifle-sighted barrel, wood furniture. Went $300 and change from Oshmans, but it's also not a Police Magnum.

Buy it now.

Get a Saiga 12.  They go for about the same price and can handle 2 3/4 and 3inch magnums.

Buy it or spend a few hundred more for an 870P MAX

seems like a good price for a good gun. a friend of mine paid just shy of $500 for his 870 Police Mag, but this is CA.

The Police Mag differs from the Express models in that it has a metal trigger housing (instead of plastic), beefier springs and internal parts, because the cops abuse their equipment a lot more. You may not notice the difference in durability.

When you're ready to make it high-speed-low-drag and kick-ass, send it off to Hans Vang in AZ

There are many like it, but this one is mine

I love my 870 Marine Magnum. It was my first gun and my first time shooting a 12 gauge! Still have it and wouldn't trade it or sell it for anything.

well, not quite...you get the gun for $300-400 but then you gotta spend another $300 to get it converted from a commercial gun to a high speed manslayer. but it's the fastest cycling, most reliable shotgun out there.

Just because it's a deal doesn't mean it's worth it.

Buy it if you want it. Everything seems expensive when you buy it.  Five years later it seems like a give away.

I'm partial to my Mossbergs. I've got a 590 marine cote and a 500 extended capacity. They're solid guns and reasonably priced.

I don't care what gun you buy as long as you are well armed.

I like my 870.

Isn't that a little steep for an 870? What's so special about this model?

ETA: never mind, I read the link.

Is a 870 Police Mag a Wingmaster quality gun or a thrown together "Express"?

My 870 Police Magnum is very good quality.  It is Parkerized and has a 20" barrel and rifle sights.  I just shot it today and put 10 of 10 slugs in the chest of a man sized target at 50 yards.

It really is sort of a scam, as my old 870 has the metal trigger guard and all the heavier stuff that the new "police" model has.

They economized the 870 and now are selling the old one for a lot more.

Not a fan of big green on this one...
