Cool vid.  Back then surplus M1 carbines would have been a good choice.

ETA: -1 for not using the shotgun as a club.

Thing I took away from that whole video is that I need to remodel my den. Built in the early 70s, it has the same paneling as the jewelry store, and, not only that, the same macrame owl hanging on the wall.

It will still spread, but no where near as drastically if you are using the right ammunition.

Federal Flite Control is one of the best options.

Even less relevant with the advent of reliable, inexpensive autoloading rifles.

The shotgun is a lousy choice for a patrol long gun.

The question should be: Sidearm or rifle?  The answer is:  if you a reason to ask the question, take the rifle.

Shotguns in LE Patrol work are strictly for special applications.  Carbines are for shooting people that you don't want to shoot with your pistol.

Modern reduced recoil 00 has a much tighter grouping
We still wouldn't tell our guys to be using 00 at 20 yards

I had a Model 94 in my patrol car in the 70's...30-30 goodness
I have a Model 37 Ithaca 12 that I cracked the butt on when I stroked a rape suspect across the noodle with it, shotgun stocks are NOT good for buttstrokes...

It's like in my dept, about impossible to get a rifle, even if you got one you can't use a red dot or any sort of optic. And our shotguns must be unloaded in a case in the trunk. Oh and no slugs, pump style only.

Were there any quality red dots or other optics in the 70s anyways?
