This is why they need height/weight minimums (and maximums) Would you help if you saw this happening? |
|
Yes.
I respect the fact that she was holding her own, well kinda....and not scared to react. |
|
The cop could have easily issued a beating to take that guy into custody. The longer you play push/pull/tug with a suspect, you have a greater likelyhood of getting hurt.
On the flip side, that officer should have called for back-up before trying to arrest that guy. Come on, he is obviously bigger & stronger than she is......... |

Being retired Officer, yes I would have helped after carefully identifying myself. agree should have called for back up before hands on. |

Only thing that would make me hesitate in helping a police officer is the risk of being mistaken for a bad guy or otherwise ending up in trouble for doing the right thing.
|
|
Yes...just as you can be determined to be too smart or too dumb to join the ranks, there should be physical characteristics which define qualified candidates.
How many handi-capable electrical linemen do you see up on those lifts in their wheelchairs? Not many. |

I won't help the police. I don't know what the deal is and how it's going to end. Not my business.

A simple "Mam' do you need some help?" would suffice. Dashcams record audio too. |

A regular sized man would look small next to that giant fuck.
|
|
That is more of a "small female cop vs tall man".
Your average "small/short guy" has learned how to make up for his height/weight disadvantage |
|
i would have smacked too tall in the chin ...
1) just to see if i could knock him out ... and 2) ask smurfette for a bj while in uniform after she got off her shift ... |
|
I'd call 911 and report it, then stay on scene and be a good witness. I might honk my car horn, or yell at him to stop. And chances are really good that's what the PD would tell me to do if I presented the question to them.
There's no way I'd personally engage the alleged bad guy either physically or with my carry gun. Much like police officers, I want to go home safe to my family at the end of the day. |

I'd help if I thought a police officer would get killed or hurt.

The police have tools; that was an appropriate time to use them.

I have personally seen smaller female officers let go or stand by and watch in those type situations. At least she was doing what she could. Knowing that the minute she actually "let's go" it could escalate badly. I commend her for hanging on and trying. She even tried to trip him at one point to get him on the ground. |
|
I would definitely ask if they needed help... I wouldn't just jump in and get in the way.
On a similar note I once stopped a guy running from three cops, my two friends just jumped out of the way and me being the skinny shorter one stopped the guy. I try to not hesitate in situations like that. |
|
I would yell. "Bear fucker Officer do you need assistance?" and act accordingly.

Spinners should not be tasked with things so far beyond their capabilities. It's just absurd to even consider putting tiny people in that sort of position, as that could easily lead to a deadly force scenario, for no reason, except some silly sense of fairness to the weak. Certain jobs require certain capabilities. This is one of them, clearly.

A perfect example of why LEO's should learn Aikido. If she had know an effective wrist lock or had a better sense of HIS balance it would have been a non-issue. Tall lanky people dont have as much advantage as one might expect. Her center of gravity is very low his very high....Yeh I know im arm chair quater backing but this is something I do have experience with.

I think they should have minimum size requirements. I knew a lady who was a sheriffs deputy in MI. When she joined back when they had the minimum quals for everyone. She had to meet the same standard as a man. She said that her and her female friend on the force had to gain at least 15lbs. to meet the weight requirement and work out and run like crazy to make sure they could do the timed run and push ups in the max allowed time.

Serious biz.
I am not a large man, and therefore I wasn't a large policeman at all. Traffic stop, and the driver has no license or ID except his CDC (parole) card. And I can see this guy's a monster, so I call for a second unit. Second unit is a female officer, who was known for being able to take care of herself with no help, and was no taller than 5'5". She's 10-97 and I ask the guy out of his car. He unfolds from the car and is at least six foot ten inches, about 260 pounds with a 33" waist. He just gated a week before and was completely yoked out from the iron pile. If you made a Nazi flag from the swastika tattoo on his chest, you could use it as a car cover. He forgot to visit his PO when he gated, and had a parolee-at-large warrant. I stepped behind him and told him he was under arrest. He immediately dropped to his knees, folded one calf over the other and interlaced his fingers behind his head without being told. Utterly compliant, and I had to use two sets of cuffs interlinked to get his wrists together. I was booking him later and asked why he didn't square off when I arrested him - he could've tied a fucking knot in my neck. He said smaller cops escalate to deadly force faster than bigger cops do, and he knew the female would just shoot his ass without even thinking twice. Everybody in prison knows this, he added. A nice enough guy, all things considered, and I saw no need to dispel his perceptions at all. |

I used to think I would. That being the "right" thing to do, and all that. Anymore, I don't know.
Once at Octoberfest in LaCrosse, my friend, a big ole 6' 7" farm boy heard a commotion behind us as we were walking down the strip. We turned around and here was an average sized guy running towards us, police about 3 laps back. Big gun there calmly sets his beer on the sidewalk, squares up to the alleged perp and delivers one of the better "classic middle linebacker plant-and-drive" tackles I've ever seen. The police took a moment or seven to catch up, then scolded him for doing it. That's my only experience with citizens helping cops. |

It looked like a chihuahua fucking a great dane. Ok I would have said can I shoot him. Can I shoot him huh huh!
